Here is another example of parents being way too protective of their children. I remember when I was that age I had a cartoon-ish book that told me all the basics of the differences between a man and a woman.

What a load of crap, damn I wish this whole litigious society would just end and we'd get back to being just normal people.

The thing I don't get, parents today are children of the baby boomers right? They are some of the fittest, healthiest people on the planet and why? Because their baby boomer parents let them run around in the mud, climb trees, break bones that healed up, got sick that gave them stronger immune systems and best of all, accepted that accidents were accidents and kids will be kids. Yet now these ex-children are wrapping their kids up in cotton wool and we're all getting fatter and fatter.

It's a nude sculpture for crying out loud, it's not like they took the kids to a live sex show.

Calm, the f**k down, for the love of all things you hold dear, just calm the f*** down.

Honestly, why are people so uptight? It's nude art. The kids are in 5th grade. It's not like it was sexual or anything. Why do Americans always take nude things as totally sexual and shameful and wrong?

A few days ago someone reportedly had porn already in their DVD player from Wal-Mart when they bought it. Her kids saw 3 seconds, and the 13 year-old said it was very gross and that she'd never seen many of the body parts she saw in those three seconds. The mother seeked counseling for the kids. And I thought that was extreme.

What is WRONG with people? A teacher who sounds wonderful is having her career suffer horribly b/c of taking her students on an an approved trip to an art museum where there was one nude sculpture. That's absolutely ridiculous.

Just generally kind of depresses me. :(

    Gone but not forgotten.
I can believe it. Years ago, people in Cincinnati wanted to clothe a traveling exhibit of Rodin sculptures.

People in the U.S.A. constantly have a problem with nudity. It's odd to me that they'll let a man with what look like breasts walk openly in public while women have to keep covered.

There's a funny show on here called "The Ronnie Johns Half Hour" - it's a sketch comedy show and one of the actors does a great impression of cult hero, ex-stand-over man and con-man Mark "Chopper" Read.

His current act is walking through the streets of Australian cities saying that we all need to "Harden the F*** Up," he got one guy, looked to camera and said something along the lines of:

"This here is Carl, he drinks soy milk in his coffee, OOo... look at meeee I'm lactose intolerant...Oooo..... Hey Carl, why don't you go get a Muggacino of harden the f*** up"

I think most people today could do with a mug of harden the f*** up followed by a chaser of calm the f*** down.

So it was about the flip flops not the nudity. I'm so reassured! We know everyone hates a flip-flopper.

    On the moon.
The parents probably got mad because their little Timmy started to scream boobies at the top of his lungs.

    Yeah, I don't "get" it.

More than likely the very same parents who have a problem with the art that their children saw have children at home playing violent video games, watching violent television shows and are fostering a general distain for anything cultural and a growing placation for anything that "babysits" their kids so the parents can have some down-time.

Now, I'm not picking on video games (and you can substitute video games for a slew of mindless activities parents allow their children to pursue). What I am picking on is parents who choose the wrong battles to fight. That is if they're choosing any battles at all.

Responsibility comes along with being a parent. When you sign a permission slip to visit an art museum, you're granting your PERMISSION. Everyone, every reasonably intelligent person) knows enough about art and museums to expect that there may be nude art among the other pieces. How about a parent actually taking the time to visit the museum or at least their website to get a feel for what the child is going to experience. But that would take parental time, wouldn't it?

And parental time is what's lacking in most households. Who needs parental time when you've got a PlayStations and wide-screen televisions to hypnotize your children?

    The whole thing is crazy.

Good grief, some people are way to uptight, I bug my better half, who is from Montana about this all the time, now that she has been away from the states for a bit she has really noticed for herself, how uptight so many Americans can be when it comes to sex and such.

I'm not sure what concerns me the most, the fact that the parents got upset or the fact that this supposedly wonderful teacher lost her job over the matter.

...That's truly the problem with America; most Americans believe their opinions should be law, and people with authority actually encourage such behavior by following their orders!

Those parents deserve to be stamped with STUPID across their forehead and sent away.

Also, for what it's worth - I took a field trip in the 5th grade to a local art museum featuring some nude sculptures & painting and I turned out just fine. ;)

Per the second article, I think I'd feel better about letting my kids look at the Mayan exhibit the teacher didn't permit them to see than letting them play GTA or one of those other tasteless games for hours on end.

When you consider how much smut kids are exposed do these days in the name of advertising and the like, I don't really see how some people can get all bent out of shape at real art.

That's one of the basics of democracy - you get to vote your opinion, no matter how absurd others may think it to be. The problem doesn't lie in that, but in the fact that lots of people revert to the level of tantrum-throwing children when they don't get their way (i.e. their side loses).

Not to get all defensive, but there are 300 million of us, and only a handful of jackasses that were part of this. Plus, and it IS worthy of note, they people are in Texas, and that place is just plain retarded...

I would end it at that but I think there is a law about not posting only with a smiley - probably some parent objected to that as well...

P.S - not wanting to be rude or crass but just wanting to do something because there is nothing wrong with it -- let me just say....breast (being a medical term and all).

American's have sex with all their clothes on. The genitalia of an American may only touch the genitalia of other Americans through the fly of their pants.
