    Do you think it justifies "iPhone 5"? When it's the 6th iPhone?

    Was Apple too scared to risk it and just call it the iPhone?

    For the 100th time...

    4S -> 6? No. 5 comes after 4.

    They kept an arbitrary numbering system so they could do minor spec bump S releases every other year.

    So, we have gone from "what are they gonna call it" to "what should they have called it"?

    Close enough.

    To some it will be worthy of iPhone 5, others not so much.

    They should have named it "The New iPhone" not 5 for the last time it's not the 5th iPhone but whatever I guess we will have to live with it. But the way I know Steve would have never allowed it to be called iPhone 5 lol

    iPhone 4L for Long. Nothing magical, time to move on and install iOS6 on the 4s.

    Here is the answer as to why they simply cannot drop the numbering scheme:

    Good luck differentiating between the various models in 3 years when you have iPhone for $0, iPhone for $99, and iPhone for $199.

    I was surprised to see it called iPhone 5, as this is the 6th iPhone, but it kind of makes sense. That's all the media has called it the past two years, and most consumers will see the name and know this means a big upgrade.

    Easy, iPhone (2010), iPhone (2011), iPhone (2012). Or how about: 4th gen iPhone, 5th gen iPhone, 6th gen iPhone?
