How can you tell what generation of i pod touch i have? I D/L an App. (itunes) bu for some reason I cannot move it to my touch...my touch is jailbroken to 1.1.4. is there a way of backing up i touch before restoring it to 2.2?

thx

If it's a version below 2.0, you have an original iPod Touch, meaning you need to buy the update. As for backing it up, um plug it into iTunes and sync? That will back it up, or do you mean something else?

Ok I guess i have a 1st generation i pod touch...i have D/l an app to my itunes ...but it does not sync with my itouch...everything else does, music, movies photos...etc

You have to upgrade the software on your iPod to 2.0 software before apps from iTunes cAn be installed. When you upgrade your applications from your 1.1.4 jailbreak will be lost. There is no way to back them up because they will simply not run on 2.0 software. You can jailbreak 2.0 version iPod touches but they do not have the same applications.

in itunes it gives me the option to update to 2.2..when I hit upgrade it says $9.99. Is there a free upgrade to 2.0?

What would happen if i did a restore?

Yes you can simply download a 2.0 online anywhere, search it

And when you do a restore, you can shift+click and choose the firmware to restore to. If you don't do that, it will restore back to 1.1.4

Just thought you might wanna know... downloading it "free" is not legal.

Yes sorry I forgot to mention that, if you're downloading it free online, it's illegal. I've done it and it works just as if you purchased it.
