I randomly decided to put my computers back in action doing some folding, and decided this time to be on the macrumors team as user oaklandbum (previously I was on the [H]ard|OCP team and a short bit on the MacAddict team with the username of rrp). Anyway, I thought it would be a good idea to have everyone list what machines they are using in one thread. Here are mine (none of them are on 24/7 as they are in my bedroom and I must sleep): 450MHz G4 Cube Shuttle SS40G with an Athlon XP 2500+ I'd run it on my old PowerTower too, but there is no Linux PPC version. Anyone wanna donate a G3 or G4 upgrade so I can run OS X?
8 500 Mhz G4 2 800 Mhz G4 14 867 Mhz G4 3 1.0 Ghz G4 3 1.6 GHz G5 8 2.4 GHz P4 and a partridge in a pear tree...
I have: iBook 600 G3 (not worth it, but it has the "can't wake from sleep" bug so it runs 24/7). iBook 800 G4. 10 hours a day. Athlon 2.4 24/7, but on a computer used by several people. I had another Athlon but it now hangs when folding and the second CPU is in heavy use. Anyone know how to limit a unix process % cpu? I can see how to limit cpu time, but that doesn't seem to be what I would want to do.
That I know of running 24/7 Athlon XP 3200+ Pentium4 3 GHz 500 MHz G4 on and off Athlon XP 1400+ Pentium4 2.8 GHz Athlon XP 3000+
i may have misplaced a few procs, but i do know i am running: 4 2Ghz G5 (running 24/7) = 8 Ghz 8 1Ghz G4 (running 24/7) = 8 2 733Mhz G4 (running 24/7) = 1.466 1 400Mhz G4 (running 24/7) = 400 17.866 Ghz (@ 24/7) MacOS 4 900 Mhz PIII (running 24/7) = 3.6 Ghz 6 2Ghz Xeon (running 24/7) = 12 2 1.4Ghz PIII (running 13/5; 24/2) = 2.8 * 0.67 =1.876 26 2Ghz Xeon (running 13/5; 24/2) = 52 * 0.67 = 34.84 52.32 Ghz (@ 24/7) Linux so, that's about 70 Ghz at a 24/7 rate. plus, i have 2 2Ghz G5; 2 500-Mhz G4 at home, currently not running.
1 x G5 DP 2.0 Ghz 3 x P4 2.66 Ghz 1 x P4 laptop 1.6 Ghz 1 x P4 laptop ? Ghz [running at 50% proc] 1 x G3 700 Mgz
1 dual 2GHz G5 (24/7) 1 dual 450 MHz G4 ( 24/7) 1 TIbook ( 24/7 when it is not on travel) 400 MHz 1 Pentium 4 2 GHz ( 30% of the time)
great setup...but shouldn't it be 2x2x4=16ghz for the dual g5's? probably some of those other ones are dual too... folding does use both processors right?
yo, howard, i was counting "procs" - i wish it was boxes (but i have been eying/ogling at a few G5s nearby...). late.shemp9999
I hope that someone will post that is in my league. Feel kind of embarrassed to list mine. I have a Power Mac dual G4 450 24/7 except a cool down every 7 - 8 days as suggested.
Hey, you've got my Mac beat. Yours has 2x the processing power of my Cube. But I do have my PC which is hardly ever on, so that helps a little.
wdlove - i've been watching your progress with much interest! when it comes down to it, it's all about the heart. i've been glad to do what i can. i only posted my info 'cuz fritz has been bustin' my chops (it was nice to get down and do the math, too). turns out, i'm smokin' him. keep the faith, and let's find a cure.
I know what you are saying MrMacman, got the same problem @ work. Have a beautifull grey 2.0 P4 sitting idle most of the time. And there are a lot more... Maybe it's an idea to go to my old college and install folding on every machine.... They only remove that in the summerholiday when they do a clean install of all those windoos machines. Is there a script for windoos such as Mc68K's script?
I don't know about scripts, but there was with (getting name wrong) 'micro-folding application' like with a microscope or something... I don't know... But it worked for my friend I'll try to find out... unless someone here reminds me first... I have tons of Pc's and 3 macs that I have basically complete access over expect they have a proxy server in the way, anyone want to help me config them?
Shouldn't be a problem if they got access to the internet and if the firewall has the correct port open! (I believe for folding, correct me if I am wrong!!, 8080). So good luck MrMacman, and try to catch up with me....
Thank you for your kind words shemp9999. I agree with you. I also volunteer in medical research here in Boston, It is to help my fellow human beings. Thanks to my wife I have added her PowerBook 1.25. Also the iBook that I use when I'm in our MBR.
I had 6 G5s going for us, but my school did a cleen sweep of 10.3... now all that's left is my 1.25 PB and my humble little Compaq Pesario (which I have been reformatting today...) Slow and steady wins the race?
