I've been using my MBP's backlit keyboard rather extensively in dark conditions. Just wondering how long the bulb(s) will last before they blow? And whether should they die soon, will AppleCare cover the replacement?

LED's last for thousands of hours. They will gradually dim over time, but you're computer's other components will most likely fail before the keyboard LED's do.

As far as I know the keyboard is illuminated by using the screens backlight. They don't have individual LEDs under every key.

I may be wrong though, but if it is the case, LEDs still last awhile and if the LED backlight of the LCD goes that would be covered under warranty.

You are joking right? There is an array of LED's under the keyboard and they are reflected onto the keys.

How else can you use the backlit keyboard with the display off? ;)

I said i may be wrong no need to insult me. Jeez. I have never owned a MBP/PowerMac... I would like to see some pictures of this array though.

I was wondering the same thing. How long do the keyboard backlights last?

oh sweet

so need to worry about burning out the light then?

is this 10 years under heavy use? continuous use? light use?

Well, depends what quality of LED's are in there. Up to 50,000 hours, some are now boasting 500,000!

If you used it for 24 hours a day, 7 days a week 365 days a year, the average LED would last 5 years.
