Started watching the Grammy's last night and quickly ran into the political expounding. Talk about ruining a formerly great entertainment show. This has become the new "norm" and hot me to wondering when we, as a viewing audience will get our shows back. It has gotten to the point I, and many others are starting to avoid these as a result.
This has gotten old real freaking quick.
Looks like the awards viewership is down again.

Hollywood and these entertainer-types all assume that everyone agrees with them. It could be because of the area they live or the people they are surrounded with. Whatever the cause is it really doesn't matter much. People who agree with them will tune in and clap along with their beliefs. People who disagree will tune out. People who are indifferent might just be annoyed enough at the lecture to tune out as well. If/when it hurts the bottom line the producers of these shows will tell them to tone it down.

It's called freedom of speech. Something apparently lost on some people. Well guess what, musicians have it too. And it's funny how people act like this is a new thing. Please. Politics and music have gone together for centuries. Many songs themselves have politics as subject matter. Are you going to try and control that too?

If so, again, I'd point you to the 1st amendment.

When oh when can we get back to the blatant commercialization and idol worship of the good old days?!?!?

These self congratulatory circle jerks, erm sorry "Award Shows", used to stand for something damnit!

I still don't know who she is and I saw her last night. She's still girl with the Trump dress to me. But hey, good for her for doing something that increased her record sales.

That's what I'm saying. She took a chance and it benefits her.

Lame argument. No one is tuning in to hear the spoiled brats piss and moan about Trump. No one. Theres CNN for that or the View. Its like - shut the fock up.... just sing or do whatever it is you do. Ya ever notice that every one is a commie? Did they all start that way? I wonder why? I assume most of them worked hard to get where they are so why now are they all bedwetting socialists? Makes no sense.

I get that for some reason people here believed that Award Shows were anything other than self congratulations and idol worship...which is very confusing to me.

I honestly couldn't give less of a damn about what happens at them, they're pointless to begin with.

They're pissed because as it turns out no one gave a **** what they had to say or who they supported during the campaigns.

Not covered by the 1st Amendment. If the Grammy organization wanted to make a rule outlawing political speech at their awards shows they could.

And while I don't want to put words in @Rhonindk 's mouth, I think the point is that some people want to tune in and watch an awards show for the music and pageantry and to get away form the all the political discourse. When that becomes the focus of the show, people will tune out.

As for songs being political, that is fair game. I have much less issue listening to a political song than I do listening to someone who has no connection with reality spouting off about stuff they know very little about.

Yes. I get the point that you are wrong. :D

Again, music and politics have always been connected. It's a little much to expect someone who writes songs with political themes to not also talk about them at an awards show. Seriously, if someone won best song for a song that was highly political, would you really expect everyone to ignore that and pretend it was about some other subject?

It wasn't the "focus" of the show. Plenty of music and pageantry to be found.

does anybody really expect hollywood etc. to actually support anti immigrant rethorics ?

Universal Studios: founded by a german immigrant
Warner Bros: 4 Polish immigrant brothers
20th century fox: founded by an american and a russian immigrant
Columbia: Jack&Harry Cohn, born to polish & german immigrant parents in america
MGM: Mayer: born russian(today ukraine), Samuel Goldfish/Goldwyn: born in poland..
Paramount: Adolph Zukor: born in Hungary
RKO pictures co founder David Sarnoff born in Belarus

without immigrants hollywood would have never existed. Of course they will support pro-immigration sentiments

My wife records the award shows and likes to watch them. My opinion is why in gods name does she want to watch a 3hr circle jerk? Lets watch a bunch of people pat themselves on the back and tell each other how great they are. I don't get it but then again she tells me that every football game is the same **** so why do I have to watch 3 of them on Sunday's. lol

I would expect them to not conflate the need to control ILLEGAL immigration with that of LEGAL immigration. But that might be too deep for them to work through, it's easier to just call someone a bigot for not supporting immigration and ignore the part about legality.

But it doesn't take much politicizing to make people tune out.

And does anyone think it is helping their cause? I don't and instead thinks it hurts their cause. To someone who does not live in the Clinton Archipelago

the behavior of some of the protestors and and demonstrators is pushing them away from the Democratic party. Joe 6-pack in flyover country looks at that shakes his head. He won't be coming back to the party as long as they act like that.

The Grammys are worth watching to see the different music acts and duo performances that you might not see any other way. (Lady Gaga with Metallica was AWESOME last night! Her range is amazing. She can do any gender of music and somehow it still works!)

Movie awards shows are less compelling though. It's not like they are going to make a mini movie up there on stage. So a music awards show has the edge there in that it can show performances of the actual subject...music. Even the movie awards shows have to resort to music performances. :D

Oh gawd...must everyone now live the life in constant deference to fly over states? Please. How about people just live their lives the way they want? If you don't like the very small amount of political statements releative to the actuall rest of the awards shows, don't watch. But don't try to control others and what they say or do. Geez.

Start building low income housing over near these "stars" and move the refugees over there and see who speaks up.

Well, if the Dems want to win any national elections in the near future, they better start paying attention to them.

And live our lives the way we want? Don't even know how to respond to that. SMH.

These vapid entertainers have begun to realize that they contribute absolutely zero to society. In an attempt to gain relevance and importance they drone on about political issues that are popular and will elevate themselves.
