What will be your first moves ?

Are you starting as new or restoring from backup?

Same here. Start fresh, pick the apps I want, pick some playlists and my pictures and give it a while... At least now we can do this over WiFi and don't have to wait to play with it. :)

I've previously always restored but I might start afresh this time. If I do this, can I restore my contacts easily enough? That's the only thing I'm fussed about, all my pics are backed up obviously.

I'll be jumping in the car and driving to my carrier to pick up a nano sim so I can actually use it! (They don't ship sims with the phones in Canada).

I'll also be setting it up from a backup. No sense in loosing all my settings, messages, etc.

This may be a dumb question, but if you set it up as new, don't you lose progress on any games that don't save your progress to iCloud? What else gets lost in terms of app data when you set up as new?
