When I've traded in my AW before, it was just the watch - no watch strap or charger. (This was at the Apple Store).

I did my best to super clean it up (making sure nothing was on the underside sensor, screen was clean, etc).
I hear Apple is a bit stingy with their Apple Watch trade-in values?

Yeah exactly, the trade in value was not great. So I only did that once or twice. My AW 3 I gifted to family because of the horrific trade in value. Same for my AW5. I think they only offered something around or under $200 if I remember right. Almost not even worth it.

Now that I have an Ultra, I'll probably keep it for a lot longer because of the upfront cost and terrible trade in value.

For that price, I’d rather just keep it.

I'd say it's not worth it for SS and other high-priced models. For the aluminum models, I find that it's very much worth it, and I've been trading in my watch every other year for a new model.

And yes, it's just the watch, you keep all straps and accessories.
How much do you get?

I tend to keep the previous one as a backup, and give the one before that to my family and friends. Same for iPhone. I feel like they have so much more remaining value (to somebody who appreciates it) than the trade-in price implies.

My S6 Nike non-cellular would get me... the equivalent of about $72 here (Sweden) according to the Apple Store app. Since it's got a couple of smaller dings and scratches, I'd probably not get $72.

At that point I'd just keep it as a backup as @JustinKent said.

I think you're likely to get more if you're patient enough to sell it via eBay or the like.

Makes me think they are actually cheap to produce?
More like they don’t want to recycle them so they keep the trade-in horrible to deter people from trading them in. Apple Watch has super duper compact IC board so…
They don’t care about landfill after all.
