Where and how is your iPad Pro 11” Wi-Fi + Cellular bent?

My iPad Pro 11” Wi-Fi + Cellular has two bends. I did not notice them when I got it. I checked my iPad after I read the reports and found them. They are at the top and bottom of the chassis where the antenna lines are located. For instance, if one looks at the top edge of the chassis from the power button towards the farthest speaker so that the display is on the left, one can notice that the chassis starts bending inward where the antenna line is. The bends are subtle, but they are there. I have not yet installed a screen protector (with three dogs at home it becomes difficult to achieve a speck-free screen protector installation). When I do, it will let you know if the bends impede the screen protector to adhere evenly to the glass surface. Is your iPad Pro 11” Wi-Fi + Cellular bent? If so, please let us know where and how.

Have exact same thing. Subtle bends on the short sides of the unit. Not sure it will matter in the long term if it doesn't get any worse. Considering return both for this and inability to use a glass screen protector.

Not that i don’t believe you, but if my ipad pro was bent, and imposted about it, i would definitely add photos of the bends to your post so all macrumors members can see. It would definitely help people get a better idea what you are talking about, and possibly identify bends in their own iPads. Also, adding info of wether you noticed this soon as you unboxed it, or was it later? Also, do you use a protective case? Do you travel with your ipad? All this info helps others, and then they can comment more accurately.

There are absolutely no bends in my 11” pro. I use a case, and throw it in my backpack every day as i travel & commute to the city.

Do you have the Wi-Fi or LTE model? Because I’ve had two LTE models and they both describe exactly what OP is saying, a slight bend at the antenna line. I had one Wi-Fi model and it’s was perfectly straight.

Nope. I’m Grandfathered in on the original AT&T unlimited data plan for the ipad, so whenever i upgrade, i always get the LTE model. No bends. I looked soon as i unboxed it. Then i immediately put on a case that protects the corners. I travel a lot, so i will check from time to time, but i feel pretty confident in it’s structural integrity.

You first. Please show us your perfectly straight 11" LTE model. Here is mine. Put in Otterbox case from Apple Store on day of purchase. Since moved to this Luvvitt case. Carefully laid on top of MacBook pro on recliner side table, picked up, used in lap at recliner or in man cave. Never transported. Had it about 3 weeks now. Like I said, slight bend starting at antenna mark. Don't know if came this way since I didn't really look until seeing these threads. Same on both ends:

This is what mine looks like. It did NOT have a bend that I could see or detect when I got it. I checked it against several flat surfaces and it was totally flat. It now looks like this, with the bends at the antenna lines. I haven’t dropped it, and keep in the Apple folio at all times. When I put it in my bag, it (inside the folio) goes into a padded sleeve and I put my notebook on one side and my keys-to-go on the other side, so the chance it’s bending in my shoulder bag is pretty much nonexistent. Other than that, I use it in my lap and place on flat surfaces when I set it down.

My assumption is that this is happening due to environmental conditions or it’s something to do with how it’s assembled. It’s also possible that the bend was there when I got it and I didn’t detect it, but I felt like I was pretty thorough in my inspection. Beyond that, I have no idea. It’s so subtle and doesn’t impact performance at all, so I’m not super worried right now.

Mine is the 12.9" LTE model and it has the exact same type of bend at the exact same location.

Same here (just like the picture) for both 11-inch LTE and 12.9-inch LTE. My 12.9 inch also has a very slight curve at the long edge...

All bends were present out of the box and are not very visible until you start looking for them. Not sure if I want to return or keep it as is.

I’m also very curious to see a picture of a straight one. :)

I intended to do that, but it was difficult for me to take a good photo with my iPhone XS Max while holding the iPad Pro. However, Pseudo-Fed took a photo that shows the bend that I described in my post. If you can, please share a photo of your Wi-Fi + Cellular iPad Pro having a straight chassis.

As I wrote in my post, "I did not notice them [the bends] when I got it. I checked my iPad after I read the reports and found them." My iPad Pro has not been outside my home. I am now using the Apple Smart Folio and the Apple Smart Keyboard Folio, but am looking for a more protective case to use the iPad Pro away from home.

Worrisome. I will probably get an 11" iPad pro for Christmas, exactly with LTE. I really hope it's not bent.

My iPad Pro (Wi-Fi + Cellular with 512GB) is well outside the return period. UPS delivered it on November 7. If Apple were to allow me to return it, I would order one with Wi-Fi only and 256GB (I gave away my 2016 iPad Pro). Then, after Apple has fixed whatever issues are affecting the rigidity, straightness, and flatness of the chassis, I would order another iPad Pro configured with Cellular and 512GB. Before discovering the bends, I felt that I had paid Apple too much for the new iPad Pro, Smart Folio, Smart Keyboard Folio and Pencil. Having discovered the bends, I regret having made the purchase. With all the publicity that the so-called "Bendgate" has received, I anticipate that if I attempt to resell my iPad Pro on Swappa, I will be asked if it is bent. And I am afraid that replying "only slightly where the antenna lines are located; one can barely notice it" will not satisfy potential buyers.

I am pretty sure you can make this a legal discussion in case Apple does not allow you to return the iPad. There are plenty of articles to "prove" this is a real issue. :)

My iPad 11" LTE also came with a slight bent at the antenna spot (see picture below).

I went to the apple store yesterday, to check if the ipads displayed there had the same issue, but they only had Wifi-models on show, which were all fine.

Since I am almost led to believe, that all LTE models are affected and that people claming to have straight ones are just less sensible about it, I would really appreciate a photography of a straight iPad cellular!

Concerning my iPad I'm yet unsure what to do about it. If there actually are straight LTE-models I would want to exchange mine, however if they are all bent, that would be kind of pointless and unnecessarily anger the reseller I bought it from.

So please do post a photography, if you were lucky enough to get a straight LTE-model, this would be of much help to me!

Like Themistokles, I suspect that all iPad Pros with Cellular have bends. For someone who is undecided as to which iPad Pro configuration to get, or considering whether to return an iPad Pro affected by the antenna-line bend, a picture of a straight Wi-Fi + Cellular iPad Pro would be useful. If there are straight Wi-Fi + Cellular iPad Pro units outside of Cupertino's Apple Park, it might be worth to play the Cellular iPad Pro lottery.

Initially I thought the bend people are claiming is at the Landscape mode tilted horizontally. Now I realize the real bend is on the top side where the antenna sides are. Indeed I experience some slight bend which starts from beyond that antenna line. I am also having the LTE version and it does seem like only the LTE version is affected.

But honestly, i wouldn't have notice it as well if not for the forum.

Thank you for the photo. Your iPad Pro looks OK to me as well. However, the photo is not pertinent to the discussion of bends associated with the antenna lines on Wi-Fi + Cellular iPad Pros.

Sorry my mistake. I misread that you also wanted to see a WiFi model for reference.

Perhaps it is just my perception, but I observe a subtle bend that begins on the antenna line. The leg of the laundry drying rack on one of the photos almost serves as a pointer for it.

As said any angle you look at objects can make them seem bent. That’s where obsession takes over and your mind try’s to convince you something that’s not there

Many angles pictures aside looks straight as can be for me

I’ve not seen many pics on here that looks bent but people are convincing themselves that’s the case

Actually your photo may help to further the hypothesis that non-Cellular iPad Pros are generally straight, while Cellular iPad Pros generally have bends.

I agree with your analysis. I saw a slight bend too starting from the antenna lines.

What the poster can do is try to take a picture from the bottom of the other side. You will be able to see better.

And yes it is only happening to the LTE so far.

My 11 LTE as I posted has the slight bend on both short sides. The long sides though are perfectly straight to my eye and show this against my best straight edge--an aluminum yard stick. I don't have a flat enough surface to lay it on, but since the antenna lines on each short side are on opposite sides of each other, this would create a slight "twist" in the unit. I can't see the twist when holding the iPad flat and looking from the short side.

Actually seeing/hearing others with this slight "specification" is comforting to me since it is prevalent. I can live with the slight bend since I don't notice it in use. What I don't want is tendency for it to worsen. Since Apple says it's from the "cooling process" I'm concerned about my use case which includes using it alternately in the garage while I smoke cigars, and then back in the house. The Garage can be in the 20s fahrenheit and the house in the low 70s in winter. Hoping this temp change doesn't create changes in the metal. I bought Apple Care, but we've heard Apple consider it normal. As I posted elsewhere, I bought a flat Pelican case for transport, so I'm not worried about the occasional trip.

Also not sure if it affects screen protector application, and I would like to one day have a glass protector on it when there is one that works. I will try Zagg when I can get Best Buy to apply it for me. Since they are back in stock on Zagg site I hope Best Buy gets them soon. I still may return the unit for combination of bend and no functioning glass protectors since I bought during extended holiday return period.....

I have a great 10.5 (still no white spot), but it's WIFI, and I decided I would use an LTE unit enough to rationalize purchase.
