Which of these is a better RAM upgrade option for me?

    4GB. keep things the way they are meant to be - keep the performance.

    4GB and the SSD . . . . :) If it is purely financial you could buy one 4GB now and then add another later to bring it to 8GB.

    I'd go with the 4 gigs. If you go 5, you have a slightly larger capacity, but I believe you lose the dual-channel, making it a bit slower. Plus, the noticeable difference from 4 to 5 is probably very small.

    I voted for SSD first. Best upgrade you can give your laptop.

    However if you are really hitting memory limits go with the Ram.

    Eventually 4GB + SSD :p
