    Black MacBook - $1500
    2.4GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
    4GB memory
    250GB hard drive1
    Double-layer SuperDrive

    or

    Refurbished MacBook Pro - $1450
    2.2GHz
    15.4-inch widescreen display
    4GB memory
    120GB hard drive
    8x SuperDrive (DVD±R DL/DVD±RW/CD-RW)
NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT with 128MB of GDDR3 memory

I purchased a White 2.2GHz MacBook a week ago and returned it when Apple announced the new lineup. I was planning on switching to the 2.4GHz BlackBook, until I noticed the Refurbished 2.2GHz MacBook Pro in the Apple store, for a little cheaper. Now I'm in quite a pickle. How reliable are refurbished products from Apple? Will they be absolutely spotless with no scratches or dents? Also, will this MBP still be more powerful than the BlackBook, even though it is older? I plan on doing a lot of recording and Photoshop work, so the MBP would be the obvious choice right?

Thanks and sorry for all the questions on here lately. Just making sure I"m getting the right Mac for me!

refurb macbook pro. no question. It doesn't even matter if you just use it for internet browsing and text editing.

apple refurb products are excellent. just do a search and you will find people raving apple refurb products. In some cases, they are even better than new, because they are more thoroughly inspected.

    MacBook Pro, another vote!

So when do you all think the new Penryn MBPs might come out refurb?

This is probably a dumb question, but would the Penryn 2.4 GHz BlackBook be more powerful than the 2.2GHz MBP since it has the new processor? Would the speed be noticeable between the two?

    Not that much it seems.

    Another vote for the MBP.
    - Bigger screen.
    - Dedicated graphics chip.
    - Matte screen.
    - Better keyboard.
    - FW800.
    - Better speakers.

When you say "power", you have to understand that more goes into it than just processing speed. While the Blackbook will have 200 (x2) more MHz, it will be sacrificing system memory to run the X3100. Photoshop renders a lot slower, and system speed would overall be better on the MBP. I'd go with the Pro. I'm actually refreshing (still) the refurb store to snag a previous 2.4ghz 15" MBP.

speeeeed is not the ONLY factor u should consider.

the dedicated 128 graphics card for the MBP
the display is far better than the MB
    the keyboards!

and YES refurbished are the best. i'm typing on one right now.

my partner bought a new one last july. a month after the release of Merom..
she literally went to 3 exchanges because of LCD problems.. dead pixels etc.
that's why when i decided to upgrade, i never held back to buy a refurb

    :D

Okay thanks for the replies guys! I kinda need to wait a few days before I can order it. Are these ($1449 2.2GHz MBP) common in the refurb store? I'll be upset if someone snags it and another doesn't pop up :(

there should be plenty of them. The lower cost just implies they have a whole bunch they are trying to get rid of.
