Hey Everyone,

Seems like a ::couple:: of people on here like to speculate about future products... I'm in the market for a new MBP when Leopard comes out, but my ideal purchase would be a 1920 x 1200 high-res 15" LED, which they don't make. Yet. I'm hopeful that when Leopard introduces resolution independence, we will start seeing higher res screens (Dell has had them for yearsss). Though I like the form-factor of the 15" better than the 17", the 17" already offers the high-res display, but I'm also interested in the benefits of an LED display.

Which brings me to my question/survey: Which do you think will come first?

15" high-res (1920 x 1200) screen

or

17" LED screen

please feel free to comment too!

Thanks,

Ado

17 inch LED backlit MBP.

The resolution of the 15" is good enough for what it's purpose is - if you need higher resolutions then get a external display.

But in saying that, the more pixels the merrier and without needing an external display would be great.

Don't think we'll see a high resolution LED-backlit 15" MBP for a long time - LED screens aren't in particularly high production and ones featuring LED back lighting and ultra high resolutions will be even rarer.

Got a while to wait yet.

Thanks, but my understanding was that the display and the backlighting were two separate parts? Plus, I like to think that a "pro" machine should have a higher-res option... at least up to the 17" 1680 x 1050 standard size. I guess I'm just hoping you're wrong because I can't wait that long.

ive said it before and ill say it again, 15" is just too small for anything higher than 1440x900 most 15.4" screens are 1280x800 you're lucky to have that 1440x900 screen

heck i gotta hold the computer closer to my face just to read some stuff online sometimes as it is

I have to disagree, I've had a Dell laptop, 15.4" WUXGA screen (1920 x 1200) for the past 3+ years and I thought it was PERFECT. I admit that other people who used it often thought that the text was too small, but it was incredible, especially for video.

hmm, ok i didnt realize they were available, so maybe it is a possibility, but i doubt apple would use it, maybe make it an option on the 2.4 but definatly not the 2.2

Very good point sir.

Some people need to appreciate that the MBP is higher resolution than most 15" screens.

It's also much lower resolution than on machines offered for $200-$500 less. And those screens have been around for more than 4 years through other companies.

...as long as we're being appreciative ;)

the 17 will be first for sure, the 15 may not ever be up to that resolution (at least for the conceivable future). We will see led backlighting across the MBP line by (late) next year at the latest (cross your fingers:D)
a HD 1920x1200 15.4 though.... well... gotta have some reason to get people to ante up for the 17 right?;)

Whichever one does come first, it won't be for a while. I think the Hi-Res 15" display (if it comes) will follow Leopard's release because of the resolution independence, stated above. 17" LED-Backlit screens are not looking plausible right now. Apple is having trouble procuring 15" LEDs; imagine the shortage with 17" ones.

I don't think 15.4" with 1920x1200 will "ever" come out, 1680x1050 thought.

But LED 17" before that I guess.

And 1680x1050 will be an option for those who can see it and Apple will ask for a premium because they know they can because people want it.

And they can only do that **** because there are no competition because if you want a mac Apple is the place... And that in the end is because we pirate to little. If everyone ran OS X on their PC laptops I'd guess they had to release better priced ones to compete ;D

17" led will definitely come out first

aaaaand the verdict is in. 17" LED it is. 38 votes had it to 7... way to be right! Now I will direct all of life's questions to a macrumor's poll.

:)
