Made him walk the plank! Frankenberry is reported to be in hiding! Count Chocula was last seen being chased down the street by the first lady, who was trying to whack him with a rib bone!!!

    Read all about it!!

This is intended to be humorous.

In related news, the Trix Rabbit has declared that he's not going to take it anymore. "'Silly Rabbit, Trix are for kids!' is blatant class warfare!"

Breaking: the spokesmidgets for Rice Krispies, Snap, Krackle and Pop, have revealed that they are the Trilateral Commission.

    I agree but...

    this is just absurd.

All the Obamas appear to be in good health. Were they all obese, well that'd be a different story.

Then neither of you understand what the free market is. It is not an entity unto itself. An integral constituent of the free market is the consumer, in this case the parents. As SwiftLives pointed out, the free market has categorically failed when it comes to childhood obesity.

In the African American community, that's considered an asset.

And I wouldn't describe Michelle Obama as "fat". "Phat", maybe, but not "fat".

I find your lack of personal responsibility/ accountability disturbing.

It is not corporate Americas job to monitor what goes into a childs mouth. That's the parents job.

Are you one of those people who sues McDonalds for 'making' you fat?

Uh, aren't you two saying the same thing?

The parents are the free market. They buy the processed crap without regard for their children's health, creating a demand for the product. The cereal manufacturers oblige the demand by making more of it. If parents wanted to feed their kids 100% whole-grain, cane juice-sweetened cereal, it's out there. But it doesn't sell nearly as well as Cap'n Crunch, I'm sure.

I made no comment about personal responsibility besides pointing out that the behavior of the consumer is an integral part of the free market. Not a separate entity. Your post further illustrates you don't understand what the free market is or operates despite being wed to it ideologically.

Aaaaaw, our college staple - it wasn't "just for breakfast" anymore...

I was thinking that they can just get rid of some of the sugar - but I guess that's what it's entirely made up with... :D

The bolded portions indicate, to me at least, the lack of personal responsibility.

Instead of stating the same thing again and again, why don't you educate me then?

I have explained it twice now quite clearly. The free market involves both producers and consumers. The free market fails if either behave in a way that doesn't achieve an end. In this case a lack of "personal responsibility" (but not limited to at all) on behalf of the consumers is absolutely a failure of the free market to achieve a reduction in childhood obestiy.

Has anyone considered the fact that children are a major target for advertising? Some parents may actually be able to withstand their whining, pleading children who have been heavily saturated by Mad Ave, but the marketers are counting on the fact that the lion's share of parents come to the job with minimal experience and qualifications and tend to break quite easily. We are the magpies.

It would appear that you do not understand that I'm not debating the fact that it is a collaborative effort. Even in the situation you've described there is still a lack of personal responsibility.
