So we are about two months away from the annual iPhone event and I’m sure I’m not the inky one who’s excited about it.

With that said, I’ll skip the 14 PM since I just got my 13 PM and intend to keep it for 2-3 years because it’s just a phenomenal iPhone. It’s the peak of the iPhone X design and function. It’s about time I give my bank account a break for a couple of years since I’m settled into the 2021 flagships in the forms of 13 PM, Ti S7 and the M1 Pro.

Who else is gonna skip the 14 (any models) and why?

I don't need 5G (yet). So I'm staying with my SE 2020.

i had my last phone for 12 years.
the battery on the 13 is insane that lasts me 2, sometimes 3 days.
probably getting my next phone when the battery won't last me one single day anymore.
might take a while though as the battery indication is still showing 100% battery health

It depends on what the new device is actually going to be like. However, the last phone that really wowed me was the iPhone 6s with its 3D Touch display. Ever since then, I feel like every iPhone has been a very incremental change. Granted, the full-screen displays of the X and its successors were nice, but even that didn't change the experience fundamentally.

The 13 Pro is a great device, I like its camera, the battery is decent for its size and the screen is very smooth. There would have to be a really tempting feature for me to consider exchanging it for a new one after only a year. Otherwise I'll probably stick with it for the next three to five years.

While I am supremely happy with the 13 Pro Max and don’t have any urge to upgrade… if Apple offers another $800 trade-in credit and I can get a 14 Pro Max with brand new battery, longer software support due to the new processor, and another 12-months of warranty for $300 out of pocket then I’ll most likely make the upgrade.

I’ve got the 13PM and I’ll be keeping it for at least 4 years. The hole punch display + AOD aren’t appealing enough for me to update. And my current phone does everything, and more, that I need it to do. I think the next big major change to the iPhone is going to come alongside the rumoured VR headset - and even that isn’t something I’m not going to be buying anytime soon (too expensive, apparently).

So around 2025 is about the right for me. Also brings down the cost of ownership to about £275 a year. I also never sell my phones because I either give them to a family member or they become spare phones

2025 I believe has been rumoured for a foldable iPhone, so that is the goal. I kept my iPhone X for a good 4 years so I see no reason why I can’t do the same now, especially with the 13PM battery life. I’ll probably upgrade the watch before then for the AOD, as I can’t see any real use for it on the phone when I already have a watch for browsing notifications.

i generally keep my phones for about 3 years. maybe i'm getting old/boring, but most year over year improvements don't really make that much real world difference to me. promotion is probably the only exception. a stuttery or sluggish interface is the most frustrating thing for me on a mobile device i want to quickly interact with on the go, so i appreciated that change.

How long have you had yours?

I assume the Mini will become the next SE, so it will live on through that.
I very much doubt that. Current rumors for the next SE are for a 5.7" model, and the SE line was never a “small form-factor” model, but a “former mainstream form-factor” model.

No upgrade this year for me, my goal is to hold on to my iPhones as long as possible.

12PM purchased two months after launch date
13 mini purchased February this year.

Me.

Because I just got an 11 Pro Max in February 2021 and have about eight more months before it's paid off.

I like my 11PM so I'll probably be skipping the 15 as well.

The 11 PM is a solid iPhone. Although we have yet to see how it handles iOS 16 later this year. All that widgets in Lock Screen and the dynamic wallpapers might eat into the battery life.

Battery life isn't such a big thing for me. I work from home and my phone is in one of two places. Either plugged in on my nightstand or on my desk. And my desk and a few places around it have charging cables and chargers. Not really worried about it.

I have an iPhone 6s+, and several other older iPhones, and their batteries are doing fine as well. The 6s+ also had a battery replacement last November (after 6 years on the original battery). The 6s+ handles iOS 15 just fine. I've never had the problems everyone else seemed to suffer from. If the past is prologue I don't expect a problem from iOS 16 with my iPhone.

Finally, I have a sixth gen iPad I got new in 2018. Right now it's running iOS 16 beta (the public beta). Haven't noticed any difference in battery life with it so I'm not expecting anything to impact my 11PM.

I’m the opposite, I skipped the 13 because I have a 12 mini but will be getting the 14 pro because of the notch being removed.

I had my 8 Plus for almost four years, so I plan on running my 13 for at least that long, and probably 5.
