I truly can’t believe that, ten years after the first iPhone was released, Apple still won’t allow users to place home screen app icons wherever we’d like. Why in the world is Apple so insistent on using a grid pattern that originates from the upper left corner of the screen?? They don’t force people to place their Mac desktop icons in specific places, so why keep iOS so locked down?
Back when we were dealing with 3.5 and 4-inch screens, this wasn’t a big deal. iPhones fit comfortably in the hand and even that far away upper left corner of the screen was easy to reach. However, screens are getting bigger and bigger these days, and even with my 4.7” iPhone 7 screen, I hate having to stretch or use two hands just to launch an app.
The fact that I’m forced to use some third-party website that creates blank home screen icons just to comfortably reach my apps is pretty ridiculous in 2017. I like a minimal home screen with just a few apps on it, and it makes no sense to have them all sitting at the very top of the screen.
Do you think Apple will ever cave on this issue?
And yes, I’m aware of the reachability feature, but I shouldn’t have to rely on that.
It’s just so frustrating.
