The media profits from advertisers that want ratings. Trump is just better at bringing in ratings than most. Not sure why he is being singled out as "lovefest" when it's just business.

Most people wouldn't want to use them, but in cases of defense in extreme conditions then if other countries will consider them, why can't the US? It's not unlike protectionism; countries that offshore jobs have engaged in it and even tout it in their media (e.g. Times of India), yet here in the US we're told protectionism is bad for the economy...

Convince the Trump supporters that there are better ways to live.

Or the rest of the planet, which seems to have eschewed the US' leadership for things such as environmental and worker protection otherwise the "developing nations" would be far ahead of the US yet aren't, with China using more coal than the rest of the world combined (as of 2014, maybe things have slowly improved but for a developing country why would China not have built itself up with newer and better and less polluting technologies? Or have product quality improve over time instead of worsen, but I digress (and glibly, it's not a universal truism but there are enough examples in said tangent to suggest multiple issues of multiple complexities do exist here in the real world as it's been made to deal with today))...

Nukes are not the correct "defense" to someone calling you names or disagreeing with your proposed policy.

Aye. And really they should pat themselves on the back, since they've managed to sabotage an entire election just to serve their own bottom line.

If we can't use them, why do we have them forward deployed in Turkey and why are we spending over one trillion dollars on new ones?

You would have to figure out how to disable the force field anyway, until then it's pointless.

One trillion over 30 yrs, that comes out to 33 billion a year for 30 years. Which in reality is only 4.5% of the defense budget per year.

So that we can remind people like Kim Jung-un that if they so much as try to launch a single nuke, we will wipe their entire country off the face of the earth.

Keeping them in Turkey is irrational. Especially as we don't have any airplanes in Turkey that could deliver them. But there is probably some legal treaty or arms control agreement that either obligates us to keep them there or forbids us from bringing them back if we ever took them out. It's a stupid situation. But blame the game, not the playa

Why are we spending money building new ones? Because the old ones are wearing out. The circuits and wiring in them are degrading. The alloys are becoming embrittled due to radioactive decay. And newer designs are smaller or have more flexibility in the amount of explosive yield they can produce. (This is in itself a bit of a problem since some experts think it may make using them a bit more plausible.)

Start digging deep enough into Defense Department policy and you find all sorts of crazy things. Like the fact that we still keep vials of deadly smallpox even though that disease has been eradicated. Why? Because it's theoretically possible that some future enemy might try to weaponize smallpox and we might need to respond somehow.

I really don't believe the military supports Trump. I mean the people on TV are flabbergasted over this stuff.

When it comes to nuclear powers/armed countires, it's called nuclear chicken, at least that's how it seems. And when you have someone like Trump asking why not, there'd better be a giant self-preservation klaxon going off in your head, no ****.

New weapons are one thing; new weapon designs is a whole new level. New designs will require actual testing. Granted, there is no current test ban in place but I hope you're all ready for the United States to break the de facto moratorium.

(And no, supercomputers won't cut it.)
