Why does the new Photos app have my contact card in the right top corner?

I mean WTF is the purpose of this? I haven't seen anyone else discuss this. Maybe I am missing something?

Because it's related to iCloud account. It's been a trend in the design language of the last years that the Settings menu is hidden behind your contact picture if the app includes some kind of cloud.

I don't find it perplexing, Apple just caught up with what many others have been doing.

Ah, thanks, it makes a bit more sense now. I haven't used iCloud in over 10 years, avoiding it at all costs.

Got it! Give it a try, it's not bad actually. Many people have their good reasons not to use it and I respect that, but I really am heavily integrated with iCloud and I am pretty happy with it.
