I searched for one, but couldn't find any threads on this so far...

Why is it that Garageband is free, but iMovie and iPhoto aren't? I mean, they're all part of iLife...

    They're all free on mine.

Maybe because I bought a 5s? Not sure.

They're all free for devices activated after Sep. 1st. Garageband is free for all devices.

Garageband is free for all devices because it offers in app purchases - this gets around some licensing issue.

Anyway, iPhoto and iMovie being free were announced at the iPhone event. Garageband at a later date..

Yeah, I know that's the case for new devices.
