I filed a report which got closed as a duplicate a while ago. Perhaps they're gonna introduce something in future iOS updates.

It just means that they are aware of it (that it has been reported before), but that's about it really.Why do you think so? Did it mean something in the past when they closed the report?
I, for my part, really miss it because you know that something is happening and iPhone isn’t stuck.
It can be used to show if your Wi-Fi has stalled. I for one miss it.
On all devices except iPhone X, a network activity indicator spins in the status bar at the top of the screen as networking occurs.
This is already known.Just found this. If anybody is interested, it looks like Apple intentionally removed it:
