Why where there so many bars and strip clubs in the cities in 80's and 90's?

In the 80's and 90's there where so many bars and strip clubs you could not count them all in the city!! Why where there so many bars and strip clubs in the city? More low paying jobs? Poverty? Culture was really different back than?

Yes even big cities like LA and New York had lot of bars and strip clubs in the city.

Factors like Job, money, type of job or the city deregulation policy?

Was morality more loose back than?

More strict city zoning laws now? Stricter morality now days?

No internet porn in the 80's. Internet porn has killed strip clubs and adult book stores.

That and there has been a lot of revitalization and rezoning going on in the cities as well in the past 10-15 years. The Combat Zone in Boston has been renovated with many new shops, and the bars and adult bookstores are largely gone. Same with Times Square in NYC.

Because guys like to drink and look at naked women. That's a wild guess as to why.

If you are actually asking why there are less today, I would point to both the internet and reduced middle class income, so spending on entertainment has reduced.

Well in NYC. Giuliani basically made it extremely hard to run strip clubs. They have to be a certain distance from schools, residential areas, parks, and etc. That's limited space in such a tight city.

I wonder if trend of getting people back to live in the city is also reason.

And why there was lot of city deregulation policy before? Now more strict city zoning laws now?
