**** you, Lamar Smith.
Might of been more effective if they didn't announce it and had that web page up stating that this will happen if SOPA is instituted and to call this number to protest.
Now people will of heard about it, stop by the webpage to check it out and move along knowing it will be back Thursday.
I admire Wikipedia for doing this. I would really admire a website that was dependent on advertising to go black.
That's not going to happen. Money trumps principles nowadays.
Lots of homework won't get handed in on Thursday.
Oh I completely disagree. Wikipedia is the 6th most visited domain on the planet. This will inconvenience millions and millions of people.
I thought it was the 5th.
It's awesome that they're doing this, anyways.
What happens to the wikipedia app installed on millions of devices ?
SOPA is dead. Move along.
Alexa is independent and updated daily.
What does being independent have to do with conflicting numbers?
At a guess, I'd say it won't work.
Well, Alexa is independent and uses daily traffic tracking. Your source is a self-reported and not updated daily. Generally speaking, independently verified data is always preferred to self-reported data.
That was my point. And I'm not sure why we're still arguing about this lol
They cover this on their Twitter account, so the CBC tells me.
1. Do your homework early.
2. You will see a static page, with contact information for your member of Congress or Senate.
3. They want the phone lines to "melt".
Apparently there is no need now.
Why? The Protect IP act is still going forward in the Senate.
Even so (citation please) no need to stop it now.
A good test for the next attempted intrusion of personal freedoms.
SOPA may be dead but they won't stop trying until they pass something.
Smart move really, they say SOPA is dead and hope that the angry mob retreats and forgets about it and then they sneak something in the back door.
That is precisely the reason why I think it should go ahead.
Let the people see the possible result of any attempt to resurrect something like this.
SOPA a red herring? Thick Whois is the real goal?
I'm glad Wikipedia is doing this.
You are so right this makes SOPA/PIPA child's play.
I just googled this and I still don't really understand it. Could you explain what this would do?
