Just wondering about this.

If a phone is unlocked and has to be replaced. Will the replacement phone be locked or unlocked? How does Apple or the carrier handle this?

Thanks!

It should carry over..

I asked the same question when my phone was being swapped out earlier this afternoon. The genius expert told me that it should carry over and that it would take 10-15 minutes to have everything registered into the system but as soon as he put my sim card back in, it was working within a 3-4 minutes. Unless if it wasn't factory unlocked.... ??

If you get it replaced by Apple (at the genius bar or via any of their other support routes) then the replacement should be unlocked.

It doesnt hurt to remind the genius that your old device is unlocked.

Ok, so even if the device was not purchased unlocked and was unlocked by my carrier they will ensure it is unlocked?

Yeah you're good. I was in a similar situation and my replacement phone was unlocked right off the bat.
