The new Airs support USB-3. How else are they going to make the lightning cables faster.
I am sure that iPhone will have USB 3 support one day but it only takes less than a minute for me to do backups and do not see much of a need for more speed. It is not just the cables, the hardware would have to support USB 3, too. The memory in the iPhone can barely keep up with USB 2 so there is a lot more involved than just new cables.
With a name like Lightning, you'd expect it to be fast, wouldn't you?
I'm talking about charging speeds too.
"Lightning" is only a sales tool.
