Got my iPhone last summer around August, and recently even with wifi/bluetooth off, after about half a day of easy talking and texting the battery goes from fully charged to the red zones of 10 and 20%. When I first got it, it almost seemed I could not make it die in two or three days of heavy use.

Tried resetting, and doing all the things they would recommend and my question is..Will Apple give me a refurb unit based solely on my telling them what's up? What kinds of diagnostics (or whatever) can they run on it to check the battery's health?

as long as your under the year warranty, they will exchange the phone for you. I had mine exchanged several times and never had an issue with Apple not giving me an exchange.

What would it matter really if they DID give you a refurb. Technically its used right now anyways.

I dont think OP was complaining about getting a refurb but more concerned about Apple not giving him a replacement.
