Not sure either. But may be better to sell to someone directly. Trade-in values are much lower than the street value of products, since companies need a profit when they resell. You can sell at or close to street value and use all the profit to purchase a new device.

True although sometimes companies want the user to purchase the newer version so they take trade-ins of the old version at really great prices, i.e. I've seen iphone trade-in deals that were pretty much the same prices you would get on craigslist and sometimes even ends up being a better deal for the older models.

Plus it's a lot easier/safer and much less of a hassle.

Agreed. Easier to sell to a company, only issue is the value. If you find one paying a good price, let me know ;)
