Sorry if that has been covered or is common knowledge- I searched and couldn't find anything.

Will I be able to AirPlay (either screen mirroring or extension) my 15" Retina MBP (mid 2012) to my TV using the new Apple TV?

    Thanks!

This is one of AppleTV's best features, if they got rid of this it would be massive news. So it's still there.

It's just on this page: http://www.apple.com/tv/music-and-photos/ - Search for 'airplay'.

See footnote #3 in the link for compatibility. Need to have at least Yosemite installed to use AirPlay Mirroring on your MBP.

Hopefully the better spec will reduce lag. Would have been nice to get gigabit internet for the who hardwire:(

I just tried it with my Mac (yosemite), and my atv4, it works.

It's pretty laggy, and it's on 802.11ac while my Mac is on gigabit ethernet as well as .ac, I had an atv3 but didn't mirror my Mac very often so I can't really compare.
