If you guys remember, last year, Apple didn't officially sell the unlocked iPhone 4S for about a month. However, if you went into an Apple store, and purchased an out of contract AT&T iPhone at full price (it even came with a sim card), it was actually unlocked. There is a huge thread about it in this forum, and I know that for sure, since my iPhone 4S was bought that way, and even though the salesman said it's not unlocked, it was and still is factory unlocked.

Bottom line: Does anybody somehow someway, has any clue if this will happen again with the iPhone 5?

The iphone 5 will be unlocked if you buy it OFF-CONTRACT from ATT at the apple store. All you have to do is buy it full price, go home, restore it on itunes, and a message saying" congrats, your iphone has been unlocked" will pop up.You can also just buy an iphone 5 from verizon off contract and it will be unlocked to GSM also, no need to restore.
