We are all educated here especially about Apple. But it drives me nuts when nationally syndicated radio talk shows like Kim Komando keep saying that the iPad 3 is coming out later this year.

I have sent e-mails to her and posted a "reality check" on her Facebook page but they get deleted.

It really surprises me how so many self promoting "experts" keep spreading a rumor that has no basis in fact.

Why on Earth do you care? If Kim Komando (whoever tf that is) were suggesting Kellogs are going to launch a new crispy cereal bar this summer and you thought otherwise, would you keep emailing her about that too?

If I were Moto or Google, I would be happy to payroll folks like this to spread FUD in a pathetic effort to curtail iPad 2 sales and buy myself time to ship my next inadequate product or OS...

I mean, of course Apple wants to put incredible strain on their manufacturing to produce millions upon millions of iPad 3's in say, October, just so children around the world will be disappointed when they can't get an iPad 3 for Christmas because they are all sold out and in limited supply. Sounds like a great business decision doesn't it? And the iPad was such a terrible seller last holiday season, they need to ramp it up this year so they actually make some money off this thing.

    :)

+1. The idea iPad 3 is coming in the fall is just a pipe dream for people wanting to lessen the blow of iPad 2 or fanboys who decided to skip iPad 2 in favor of the fabled iPad retina display.

I don't understand why people keep listening/reading content from people they don't agree with. Look at all the tech gossip blogs. Before it was mainly rumor sites like this one that would report news despite the source having zero credibility. But now you'll see a rumor start at A Mac blog and then make it all the way to the big name sites because they know putting "Apple" in a headline generates hits.

This is why I quit listening to most of TWiTs programming. As much as I admire Leo, the people on the shows are far from being experts. These hosts are more about ratings than content so they are constantly pushing sensationalistic misinformation rather than true unbiased facts.

Why do you care? Until today I did not know the name, Kim Komando and in about 10 seconds I likely won't care.

I think the very fact that you are spending time writing her and posting here about her is probably what she hopes will happen. It's ratings and press for her, stop feeding the ********.

Presuming he/she is some kind of journo ( i don't know the name and don't care to look up) ... they're hardly the only one to spout off about what they think will be the next big thing .... most journo's are wrong about this kinda stuff and are doing it for stories. ... don't care ... don't watch/read/listen .... simples

Once upon a time, when I worked for Microsoft as the Office Product Support Lead for the NC support site (this would have been in 1999 or 2000), I got to speak to Kim Komando as part of an executive escalation -- she called Steve Ballmer about a problem and he or his assistant told us to call her right away.

She comes off as some sort of expert on her radio show, but the reality is that to the masses, she only sounds like an expert. Anyone who knows anything about anything knows that she's just a massive jack-of-all-trades -- she knows a little bit about everything but not very much about any one particular thing.

I agree that she needs to preface any discussion of the iPad 3 with "it's rumored that" -- because she doesn't KNOW anything about the iPad 3.

I think this bothers you because the thought of an iPad3 being released a few months after getting an iPad2 is horrifying.

If I had to guess, I'd say we aren't going to get an iPad3 before the traditional release cycle. However, since none of us work in the inner circle of Apple this is all just speculation.

There is a case to be made for more frequent updates. The tablet market is clearly going to be the primary revenue source for many companies(including Apple) and that means competition will be unusually fierce in these early years. It's entirely plausible we may begin to see 6 month update cycles from a variety of companies. I'm just speculating though, so please don't let your fears of owning an obsolete product translate into hate.

I would think that these rumors of iPad3's shipping in 2011 would do as much or more harm to Xoom and Tab sales as they would to iPad2.

If someone wanted an iPad3 so much that they would wait it out instead of purchasing an iPad2, chances are they'll wait it out rather than buy a Xoom or Tab.

At least that's what I'm thinking. I think, in general, tech companies don't like customers to focus on obsolescence any more than they already do. It's bad for business if the customer keeps delaying purchases, waiting for the next update, regardless of who makes it.

The only way a rumor like this helps a tech company is if they don't have a competing product yet. Maybe Blackberry is bankrolling Kim Komando. ;)

You should spend more time worrying about your life and less about what some radio "talking head" says.

These are the sort of posts that make any forum look bad and chase a lot of good users away. Thanks for nothing.

Oh, and thanks to those in this thread that offered constructive comment. Much appreciated.

I was simply venting and at the same time illustrating how these "talking" heads are a burden to everyone. Talk shows like this are aimed at non-techy people so it seems like every day I have to re-explain to my friends the FUD that radio personalaties like Kim Komando spread on a daily basis.

Another Kim Komando follower!!! I enjoy listening to her show on weekends too, though sadly, I missed this weekends. I too hope she starts to preface that it is a rumor, and that with all things apple to take rumors with a grain of salt. Also keep in mind she was saying the iPad 2 was going to have USB, and a SD slot a few weeks prior to release as well. All through Christmas she was telling people to hold off for the iPad 2 if they did not need a tablet soon. I got my iPad 1 in November, no way would I have waited to enjoy the iPad 2 (outside of my early profiteering). My strategy is to resell to family the old devices cheaper than I paid so they continue to get use.

I could tell Kim was disappointed with the iPad 2 after the specs released, but I think it was because she had to eat a little crow on what she had been spewing as rumored facts. She is the self appointed queen of tech, and is a huge proponent towards the iPad but I think she mistakes her desire for a good product from apple to be a dictate from herself to apple to deliver on what she wants as any tech heavy user wants overkill, but apple delivers on simplicity and what is needed, a realization she faced and came to grips with after the iPad 2 was released - and something she deals with on her show every weekend as not every user is a techie, but someone who needs something that 'magically works' as Jobs puts it for the common user.

And if you think she is offsetting non apple tablet sells, you are right in some degree, only because she informs the consumer, but what is really offsetting sales is Apples excellent product experience.

Her show is actually on somewhere? I only found out she was still around in any capacity when I googled her after watching the old Komputer Tutor infomercial on YouTube, and it didn't seem like she had good clearances for her show. Her website is also way too self-aggrandizing and that she's pushing a pay version of her site so hard cones off weird.

As far as the iPad 3 in 2011, it won't happen, if just for one reason: It would make the backlash to the early price cut on the original iPhone look like nothing. I was surprised when Leo Laporte was hypothesizing it since he's usually pretty reasonable, but he's since backed down thankfully.

KittyKatta: What sensationalistic stories do the TWiT staff push? I can't think of anything besides the one I just mentioned, and that was Leo, not the rest of the crew who are the ones you have disdain for.

You're so right, it's a huge burden to everyone to have someone called Kim Komando talk nonsense about future Apple products, and I thank you for your kind efforts to get her to stop. Your posts actually make these forums look intelligent. I hereby withdraw my previous comment and apologize.

I would be extremely surprised to see an iPad 3 as early as this fall. It does not make any sense as Apple has just dominated the tablet market even though the most heralded iPad killer (Xoom) had a headstart. Why release a new version into a flooded market. Might as well waitnthe usual year and then release a major upgrade - retina display, etc.

Having said that though, I do fully expect Apple to release the iPad 2.5. (or nano/mini/whatever). This would be 7 inch retina display to capture the segment of the market that prefers that size and to compete against the Galaxy.
