Debating on whether I should go line up or just order online. It would be a huge disappointment if they only sell the unlocked version online.

Usually takes a month or so before the unlocked versions are for sale.

The 5C is ready to preorder unlocked and delivering on the 20th.

The 5s have the button for preorder unlocked with T-mobie SIM card and I assume it will be delivered a couple of days after ordering.

I need 2 unlocked ones I hope they sell in store too, I'll order them at 3AM and check the stores in the morning, if they have them I'll cancel the previous order if not I'll wait for delivery.

Are you going to use it on At&t or T-mob?

Are you planning to go early to the store and see if they have unlocked ones there too?

I buy my iphones fully unlocked every year, and no I will just go whenever I wake up maybe around 9 or 10. I am gonna get 2 white/gold hoping it will not be a popular color here in the US.

Last year was a pain to get me 2 iphones 5 white and black on release date, due to the damages. What I did last year was I used my att upgrade so that my iphones would be reserved, then once I get there I tell the specialist to cancel my upgrade, and I would like to buy them at full price.

Got home and activated them wih my international sim voilas fully unlocked on release date.

As long it is unlocked it will work with any sim in the world. I would recommend you to order the iphone 5s unlocked without the tmobile sim in case you wont have to deal with tmobile to get it unlock.

Yea I saw that, but to make sure I would order it without the tmobile sim.

The other option is unlocked with tmobile sim correct?

what do you mean by this "Last year was a pain to get me 2 iphones 5 white and black on release date, due to the damages."

    What damages?

How is the availability of unlocked iPhones? Easier to get than a carrier locked one?

    How is the resell value?

    ----------

There is no SIM free for the 5s the only option is Unlocked and with a T-mobile SIM

    ----------

That is the only option with 5s, the colorful 5C will I've you T-mobile and SIM free but not the 5s.

    ----------

I'm hoping to pick up the phones in store too, this is my first unlocked on launch date, I'm not sure if they carry unlocked phones son store the first day.

I assume the 5s will be just like the 5c pre-order page looks now.

Last year there were no unlocked phones in stores, this was the only yr they had done this to bring scalping nums down, it is my understanding because there is no pre sale for 5s this year so you can Order unlocked online or purchase in store on 20th

That page is only for the 5C, the 5s shows only T-mobile Unlocked

    ----------

So do you think they will have 5C and 5s at the store from day one?

Quality control with apple last year was just crap! Had my brand new iphones scratched and dent out of the box.

Availability last year was to none to zero for months. So I am hoping better this year will be much better. Carrier locked or unlocked was the same last year.

Resell value is always the best for gsm unlocked. I sold my iphone 5 a month and half ago for $580. However, I got it swapped so it could be new for the new owner.

I did not see that the 5s would not be like the 5c shipped with tmobile sim or without, ut now I know thanx.

    Unlocked iPhone

I will be traveling to the UK next year and wanted to buy an unlocked iPhone 5s to work on AT&T and then EE over in Britain. What unlocked phone should I get? Could I get an unlocked Verizon once so if I sell it next year it would be of greater value? What color should I get? I plan on going to the store to get it the day of launch!

    mines were scratched too.

So the difference with this unlocked version is that ships with a t-mobile SIM but it is exactly the same as a SIM free one?

    ----------

    $580 on ebay?

I suspect the 5s page will get updated to look like the 5c page before Friday.

and if it doesn't...I don't think it will matter if it comes with a T-Mobile SIM or not:

From the 5s page (about unlocked iPhone)
"The unlocked iPhone includes all the features of iPhone but without a wireless contract commitment. You can activate and use the unlocked iPhone on the supported GSM wireless network of your choice, such as AT&T or T-Mobile in the United States."

Yea prolly like I said as long it says unlocked you should be good to go.

No I sold it locally, and always do.

I think locally is better too, Craigslist?

I'll stop by the Apple store tomorrow and I'll ask around to see if they can tell me about unlocked iPhones availability in the stores on Friday morning, if not I hope the delivery is within 5-7 days.

    ----------

Weird...if that article is correct we are not going to be able to purchase unlocked online and instead we will need to go to the actual store?

It does not make sense, if there are no preorders they should sell both locked and unlocked next starting next Friday and they have a placeholder on their website too.

@OP Yes, they will be selling the unlocked phones on launch morning. Every GSM phone is technically unlocked until you pay subsidized (locked) or full price (unlocked).

Last year, I paid full price for the iPhone 5 (AT&T) at the Apple Store on launch day. The store employee didn't get any of my information, so the phone was essentially unlocked.

This year, I plan to switch to T-mobile. Get the iPhone 5s on launch day and stick in the SIM card afterwards.
