Will the wifi-toggle in control center ever change behaviour?

    Hi

There has been a lot of commotion around the wifi and bluetooth toggles in control center. For some it's the holy grail, for 99% of the people it's annoying.

Every night when I go to sleep I switch of wifi and bluetooth (I just purchased a new car and stream my music from bluetooth to it). I leave the rest on as I want to be available if something happens to family or etc, but I don't want to be disturbed by incoming mail or a drunk whatsapp from my friends.

Last night I thought I tried it out, so I just toggled the buttons in control center. But then at 5am I've got a mail. I'm a light sleeper and once I'm awake, it's very difficult for me to get back to sleep. And I need my sleep. I totally forgot about the fact that Apple decided to switch wifi back on in the middle of the f*cking night.

Needless to say I won't be doing this anymore. And yes I hear the solution, just go to settings and switch it off there. But why does it have to be like this? It has been so easy, just swipe up, toggle the switches and swipe down. To do the detour of going to settings annoys me. And to be honest it even makes me think of selling my iPhone and going to Android.

With ios 11.1 there hasn't been any changes apparantly. Will this ever change? Has there been communication from Apple about this? At least give us the option.

Why not use the Do Not Disturb function which is in place for this very reason? Either turn it on manually from Control Centre if you want or even easier set times for it to do it itself automatically.

This is another workaround, it should be like it was, or as I said, at least give us the option.

Btw, in do not disturb, I can select to have all the calls come through, but I don't see anything about text messages (not whatsapp etc.). If that would be an option, I could live with it, but it isn't.

People just accept what Apple throws at them, and yes there will always be people who complain, but to me this is going back into the past and not going forward. Not all people want/have an iWatch, or have multiple Apple devices in house where this function could work.

Do not Disturb is not a workaround....its designed so that things dont disturb you when you dont want them too. Think its designed so that calls from favourites etc get through in case of emergencies etc but that doesnt extend to text messages. To be honest if someone wants to get hold of you that urgently they should be phoning anyway.

Unless i'm misunderstanding what you do and dont want getting through Do Not Disturb would do what you want but this is a thread dressed up to moan about how the toggles now work because it doesnt suit you.

See this is what I don't understand. Why do people just accept what Apple throws at them because it's "a new miraculous way of how we use our devices". It simply is not.

Look, I accept that for some people this way is more convenient, but for most it is not and Apple is just not listening and jamming it down our throats how we should use their devices.

I sometimes receive texts during the night which are work related, they are indeed not as important as urgent phone calls, but it's something that I still like to receive at night.

Bransoj don't get me wrong, this is not a personal attack at you. I've been with Apple for over 10 years, but the last year I've been ever so frustrated with them. They've dropped the ball, and they've dropped it hard.

Do you have stats that show that the new toggles are bad for 99% of users?

I hated it at first but, now I find it very convenient. I can disconnect from a network if I need to in few steps.

I think its great, it’s just took me a while to appreciate it.

I have no issue with the change and i'd dispute your claim that 99% of people find it more inconvenient or are just accepting it. For the overall way of working with an iPhone turning off wifi is not really ideal. Your way of wanting to have your phone overnight i suspect is very much a minority use case and they cant satisfy everyone.

That said there are probably other ways of sorting it by using Workflow or IFTTT to save you the hassle you think you are having to turn it off in settings. Apple arent going to be changing it anytime soon either.

I’m confused as to how connecting to WiFi at 5am has anything to do with your device checking for mail. Does this have something to do with fetch settings? I get mail 24/7 regardless of my WiFi or Cellular connection status.

As mentioned above, DND is probably what you should be using if you are such a light sleeper. Mine is set to automatically turn on at 10PM and off at 7AM. I have been using it for years.

Also as others have mentioned. I hated it at first. But now, it is what is it. It’s nice not worrying about it. It took a couple months to get used to is. But it’s really not that big of a deal IMO. And I hate change.

Mails over cellular? Perhaps it’s possible here (Europe) but haven’t heard of it, it goes via wifi.

Your email doesn't get checked for when you are on cellular/mobile and only works when you are on WiFi?

I have found the new functionality helpful. I go to some places that are next door to places where I use the WIFI but the signal next door is mostly too weak to use so I use the new switch drop that connection. I'm not sure the midnight thing makes sense but if they didn't have something you'd have to do something when you wanted that connection again.
Not sure why DND doesn't work for what you want
