Well, HDMI is awesome first off... But I'm a teacher in a fairly wealthy district and we don't have the flat screens in every classroom that steve jobs talks about so I'd only use that feature at home. Now, at work, I connect my MBA to speakers and the projector using a VGA cable. If only I could Airplay into my MBA (I think there's a mac app that allows you to see the mac as an airplay device), and have mirrored output for that (Maybe a pref on the iPad), I could do my annotations of PDFs, sketchbook, keynotes (Hopefully with ink annotations in the future) all wirelessly. It's really cumbersome to have the ipad (or any device) still tethered while teaching. I can only dream I guess...

Yeah keep dreaming is right. It would be a grainy delayed choppy mess. What you are asking for is technically not feasible

Not looking for video but for some of these less intensive (see OP) video-wise apps.

Air sketch is nice but I'd like to have the inking of penultimate for example...

I am sure that you can mirror the iPad to VGA.

    iPad to HDMI adapter
    HDMI cable to VGA adapter
    VGA adapter to projector

It isnt elegant but it should work. No fancy Flatscreen necessary.

I'd be willing to bet you can use the VGA adapter for mirrored output

I'm sure there will be a way to enable that feature on a jailbroken device.
