The two women in the room were doctored out of the iconic "situation room" photo by a religious newspaper

    What the heck!

Publications have been doing this since the dawn of publishing.

Is it right? Of course not.

    Am I surprised? Hardly.

Print the photo as is or don't print it at all, but to go to the trouble of Photoshopping it, just to uphold some kind of archaic belief? Gimme a break.

These people got a lot of time on their hands, don't they?

Agreed. If you can't handle reality, don't go into journalism.

Thats the thing- The moment they edited the photo for content it ceased to be "Journalism" and should not be regarded as such

Hasidic porn must be really boring if you're a straight male.

Lee might like it though :D

But that's their job (also cooking and cleaning). <---according to them, not me.:p

When they throw a party, the men all eat and drink and dance, and the women are in a separate (usually smaller) room doing their own thing.....which usually isn't as fun.

    It's bizarre.

... Tell that to Fox news! :D:D:D Ok I'm done.

Apparently some sites are saying this was to not 'arouse' these Ultra-Ortodox men or in the words of the linked CNN article “because it could be considered sexually suggestive.”

This should be used as a barometer in everyone's life; you find Hillary Clinton agape with shock of the violence she is witnessing to be arousing or sexually suggestive in anyway, you need to re-examine how you got to that point in your life.

    Agreed.

Extremists in all religions are the same, Jews, Muslims, Christians etc. It's pathetic.

The interesting thing is it's against the use terms of the release accompanying the photo:

Although they apologized, their freedom of religion "allowed" them to violate the stipulations for using the official photo. They claim their photo editor didn't read the fine print. Give me a break.

Do you want to know what's really pathetic?

    That ignorant generalization.

You really can't deny that extremists in those religions treat women like second class citizens. Don't shoot the messenger, Reach9 is just pointing out the truth.

Claiming that Extremists of every religion are the same is HARDLY the "truth."

Unless someone can point me to a source showing all the honor killings committed by the hands of Extremist Hindus and Jews....

Also- It is important to take note of degrees. Unless you really want to argue that an average "extremist" christian treats women the same as your garden variety "extremist" muslim....

    Who denied that?

I denied his generalization that all religious extremists are the same.

It's a Hasidic newspaper, hardly the New York Times. This is a publication for a narrow population -- and I doubt they are outraged over the photo doctoring. If this happened in the mainstream press I'd be more concerned.

He wrote that in a thread about how women are being treated. All religious extremists treat their women the same: as second class citizens. Do some treat them even worse? Of course they do. But his point is still valid.

He very plainly exclaimed that "all extremists are the same". No qualifiers, nothing. He is still wrong, and even IF he was limiting their similarities to "treatment of women", it is still not even close to the same!

If you want to play by those rules then hell, slavery was the same as the Jim Crow era.

Sure, neither is good but one is clearly much worse.

He initial reply was to this quote by NekoGirl

Ergo, his response was not within the context or topic of the thread and was a direct generalization of religion.

    Nice try though.
