    Hi

This is probably kind of a noob security question but here goes:

I have snort running on my mac and I got a ms-sql worm propagation attempt alert and also a ms-sql version overflow attempt back to back on port 1434 so I immediately disconnected the box from the internet within like 3 seconds.

My question is, how long would it take something like that to get through if it did? Am I still safe if I immediately disconnected? I don't have mysql running and port 1434 is closed. I have doorstop x on (although it wasn't set up to protect udp at the time)..

I want to know if I this is just random nonsense or if I should be taking additional measures.

    Thanks much

Those are Windows worms and have no affect whatsoever on Mac OS X, as you will understand if you read this: Mac Virus/Malware Info
    Snort-alerts/MS-SQL-version-overflow-attempt
If you are running Windows on your Mac, you will find solutions in the CERT® Advisory document I linked.
