Want to get a macbook for studying kids.
They will do video editing, home work , browsing and playing games.
They already have a gaming pc with i7 12 gen nvidia 3080. But now want something mobile .
The m2 macbook pro is announce and will be around 2k . Shall I wait ???
Is it worth to get macbook pro 2019 16 core i7 512 gb, as he is getting a good deal from a fellow student for half the price.
How much should a good price for this machine.
How many years will intel be supporter
Can someone please give their expert advice.
Thanks

If it’s for your Kids, I would probably go for the M2 MacBook Air. They already have a gaming PC so they can use the MacBook Air for everything else. The M2 Chip has dedicated video encoders so can handle video editing with ease. Light and all day battery life they are great for homework. Unless you have a specific need to run Intel apps I would not recommend getting one, as the future is Apple silicon. Apple appears to be accelerating the speed that it is dropping Intel machines from new versions of Mac OS. You are likely to get security updates for a few years after support for new versions of Mac OS are dropped, but I would not be surprised if next years Mac OS update is the last one that will run on a 2019 Macbook Pro.

Better to go with M1/M2 vs. a 2019 16". Knowing kids, having the battery life benefits from Apple Silicon will be a huge advantage.

Also, the (lack of) heat in the M1/M2 chips vs. Intel cannot be overstated.
