So my iPhone 4S's lock button has gone kaput, and I am too afraid to fix it myself, and basically everywhere I look, the price to get it fixed is basically the same price to buy a new phone (my mom is letting me use her phone upgrade), so I'm thinking about buying myself the iPhone 5.

Now, of course 4G LTE, 4-inch screen, and unlocked Verizon model (my carrier) are all awesome upgrades from the 4S, but the question is, is it worth it at this stage, or should I try to hold out with my chipped phone and messed up lock button till the next iPhone is revealed and see if that's a better cause?

If first see if you have any luck with apple care. That sounds like it could be replaced on that. If you are out of warranty you could get a nice genius. If not I'd wait around about now. I imagine if you got a 5 and the 5S came out with some great new features you would be kicking yourself.

That's the thing, if it's an "S" model, than historically it'll probably just be a processor boost, maybe something kinda cool but not needed, like a fingerprint reader. If it was something like this I wouldn't care.

Pretty much I just want that LTE and larger screen, which is why I was considering getting the 5.

As far as a nice genius, I've got what looks like a chunk taken out of the corner of my phone, so I doubt i'm going to get it replaced.

i would suggest maybe finding a friend that would be willing to help you with the fix, as the parts are not that expensive. i found the iphone 5 to be a huge step from the 4, especially from the LTE ability. i would look into fixing and selling the 4S so when the next one comes out, and people look to sell their 5's, you can grab one.

So I've thought about your responses so far (as well as the multiple responses I got from other places), and I think what I'm going to do is just go ahead and get the iPhone 5.

Statistically, we're in the off year of the iPhone, so the iPhone that's announced this fall will probably only have some minor improvements, and maybe one exclusive feature (like the fingerprint stuff we've all been hearing about). I think it's better to just go ahead and get the 5, since I don't mind being behind on the curve, as just having 4G LTE and a 4-inch screen are good enough.

I was just gonna keep my iPhone 4S around, as like a spare in case of anything happening, but I do like what you said above; I'll probably fix it and sell it.

Their maybe be some piece of software that the 5S gets that the 5 doesn't. Historically speaking anyway. That will also future proof you when the 6 comes out as the 5S will probably get all software the 6 gets. Historically speaking again.

But if you need a phone then the 5 is the way to go.

You COULD have apple replace it for 200 bucks and save the upgrade. Then when the 5S comes out sell the 4S (which will hopefully still be in mint condition) to pay for the upgrade you saved. That way you don't waste money and you'll have the latest iPhone when its still new! Just a thought.

i think iPhone 5s will come with finger print, a little better battery, and i guess from the rumour that will come in more colours.

I'd actually disagree. This is just my opinion so it carries no actual merit. But I think the iPhone 5S will include:

• Faster processor and GPU
• Mildly better camera
• A better radio (which will mostly only benefit Apple)
• Maybe some other modernization of other hardware components (128 gb model)
• And a "killer" software feature that's proprietary to the 5S

(Basically a 4 to 4S upgrade all over)

If they use the same case as they always have on the S models I doubt we will see any "additional" hardware due to space constraints. So no finger print scanner or NFC etc. Same with the battery, unless they use some wild new tech it will have the same capacity as the 5 (which is about the same as the 4/4S btw). Now there may be better battery life due to more efficient hardware (CPU/GPU, radio, etc).

But this is just my opinion that I'm basing off previous iPhone history. They could go right to the iPhone 6 and a total redesign for all I know.

If you would have asked in april or even last month I would have told you to get the 5 or some other phone. But seeing as how WWDC is only a couple weeks away I would wait.

Not sure what's broken, but if it's your Home Button Apple has a virtual one: Settings/General/Accessibility/Assistive Touch.

Get a 5, iPhones hold their price prity good so just sell it on and get the 5S if you want too. Doubt it will be a massive upgrade, the S never are.

Probability basically nil. If you are OOW you are OOW. You will pay.

Well it's not like the next iPhone is going to be announced at WWDC?

Likelihood slim but this is Apple and they do what they want. Certainly can't hurt to wait one more week.
