Is it worth taking a 50%-60% loss by trading my 2019 iMac in to Apple (Trade in value is set at $1060 by Apple) to purchase the new 2020 iMac Model or should i just keep the 2019 iMac i have? My 2019 iMac does everything i need it to do to be honest but was just wondering if its worth upgrading to the 2020 iMac or whether i should just keep the 2019 Model.

Depending on your specs, I could offer you at least that amount to take your old one off your hands.

I mentioned my specs above, I have the 2019 high end configuration that cost 2299$ Which was available in Apple stores last year, 2TB fusion, 580 8gb graphics, 40GB ram and 6 core intel i5

are you in New York?

To answer more fully - it’s almost never worth *trading in* your devices especially with a device that would be an easy sell like a late model iMac. You’ll always get more with a private sale than you would trading in. That said, there’s still no way I’d jump from a 2019 top end iMac to the 2020 version.

Does any of the following give you a better experience? If so, then in my opinion its worth it if you sell it privately and not trade it in through Apple:

• Bluetooth 5.0
• Hyper Threading included on all CPUs now (was only on the i9 in the 2019 models)
• True Tone display
• 3-microphone array
• T2 chip that handles audio input and output, storage encryption and more
• 1080p FaceTime HD camera with face tracking and auto white balance, etc
• Latest generation AMD GPUs
• Flash storage standard across all models, cheaper upgrade prices for larger sizes

Not sure why no one else has mentioned this.
Do you plan on getting an "apple silicon" iMac when it appears in anything from late 2020 to late 2022? If you are not, then go for the top 2020 iMac. If you are planning on getting an "Apple silicon" iMac, then keep your 2019 iMac.

I setup a trade in for this exact swap 2019 $2300 model for 2020. When the box came I decided it was better to give the 2019 to my wife as she preferred it over a laptop and the laptop would have been more than what I was getting for a trade in.
Performance wise the 2020 $2300 model is no joke and perform much better for what I’m doing. One place to be specific is running a Windows game in parallels I’d say the ticks in the game are about 50% faster with this model a combo of the better cpu and gpu no doubt. For me it was worth it but I had the means to do it and I felt better not giving the iMac to Apple for $1060. I probably would have ended up selling it on eBay myself.
