iPhone 12 Would I be dumb to trade in my iPhone 11 Pro Max for a purple iPhone 12?

1) I have handled the iPhone 12 Pro Max in the store plenty of times, and I get kind of annoyed by the slight increase in size from the 11 Pro Max to the 12 Pro Max. This won't change with the iPhone 12s/13

2) The iPhone 12 with OLED and 5G is very similar to the iPhone 12 Pro Max with the exception of telephoto, which I don't use all that often

3) The purple is one of the favorite iPhone colors I have seen in a while. I would pair it with a green Walnut leather case

4) iPhone 12 seems like a great phone to have for a year and a half or two years until the 2022/23 models

Thoughts? How have iPhone 12 owners liked the phone?

I don't own either. If you like the bigger screen, the 12 Pro Max is slightly taller. The width and weight differences are negligible and it is actually thinner. If the decrease in screen and lack of telephoto are no big deal, then the 12 is a more pocketable and extremely capable choice.

Nobody should call you “dumb” for doing what you want. It’s your life, finances and device. Do what you want and don’t worry about other’s opinions of that decision.

The iPhone 11 Pro Max is a great phone. So, personally, I wouldn’t spend the money to trade. But the features you want from the 12 could be worth it to you.

I had no plans to upgrade from my iPad Pro 2020 to a 2021, but then Apple put the M1 chip in the new iPads and now it’s a consideration. If I decide to make the jump, then I’m not going to worry what people think about my decision because to me it will have been worth the trade-up. 🤷🏼‍♂️

I like the Purple color. If they had come out with a Max in Purple I would be slightly upset after getting Blue. Just kidding.
I’ve had my Blue Max for about a month but would have seriously considered the Purple If it was out when I got my Blue Max. I like the odd ball colors. The Green in 2019 and now the Purple. For years I always stuck with Space Grey.
If you really like the Purple get it.

Agreed - if you want it, and have the money where the expense is not going to strap you, get it. Don't need to ask for permission. If I hesitate in doing something, I ask who do I need to ask for permission -- no one; unless it is a trespassing thing.

If one is married, it would be a good idea to talk over large purchases with your husband or wife ahead of time. If you are single, it never hurts to get feedback from your girlfriend or boyfriend. Outside of that, I agree.

The only question when getting something (anything) is the monetary one. I'm a guy who upgrades tech every 3-4 years but it's the same. If I earned a million bucks a year I'd prolly upgrade every year 'cuz why not. If you earn a million bucks a year then sure! Just weight the opportunity cost and see if it is worth it to you. Not to us, to you. If the purple style is gonna make you happy enough to justify a few hundred bucks then you have your answer.
I will be getting a stainless steel Apple Watch when the new ones come out. The regular ones are the same guts with less attractive materials IMO. I am paying for style and I know it and it is all good.
That said, the fact that you are asking the question implies some doubt to me so think on it a bit longer is my advice.

I am thinking about getting a Pixel 4a -5G; the 5G sounds cool. Do I need it - no. Just thinking.

Whenever I would get the itch to buy some electronics, I would wander around the store -- Best Buy, Fries Electronics (physical stores out of business) and think, Do I Need it, do I need it, until the answer would be -- no. Then I would leave the store and saved myself a purchase and return of the item.

Yes IMO, we're likely 4 months away from the 12S series, wouldn't bother trading in the 11 pro max for the 12 at this stage. Even 11>12 at this stage would be debatable but at least its an upgrade on practically every level; 11 pro max>12 you're losing some features, and the biggest upgrade of the 12 (OLED) doesn't even apply to you. Bad decision and I say this as a happy 12 owner. If it works perfectly fine I'd wait till September and see what apple offers.

Moving from 11 Pro Max to standard 12 may also bring you a significant battery life drop, maybe wait until thr 12S/13 arrives and decide from there, but if you MUST have purple then treat yourself to the Purple 12! Do what makes you happy!

If you like purple iPhone 12, go for it. There is nothing dumb in that
 
i would wait, its already may so new iphone in 4 months, the new x60 qualcomm modem is 2x more battery efficient than the x55 in the 12.
 
If it's the "purple" phone that you want I would get it now. Purple may not be a color that is available on the nest iteration. Because of potential screen issues on the 12s I would not get rid of your current phone until you receive the purple 12 and are happy with it.
 
As long as money is no problem and you are buying it outright then fine. Financing a phone because you like the color and covering it up with a case is just crazy.

As long as people can afford the phone payments, financing is fine. A good chunk of the mobile market contain people on contracts with monthly finance. It just like any other type of utility bill then.
 
I doubt I will pick up the purple phone but the more I see the new phones, the more I am liking the “middle size” versus the Max size. I am guessing 12s/13 will have battery life improvements in the standard size.
