Minus OLED screen**

If the only main change for the next ipad pros next year was that they severely reduced the bezels and added Face ID and the overall footprint of the ipad was MUCH smaller, would you upgrade?

I’d have to think REAL hard on it considering i already have a current iPad Pro 12.9 thats suiting me just fine and that i only use it for the most basic of things, but if they were able to make the 12.9 feel less bulky, I’d definitely consider it. Imagining the ipad I’m typing on right now where most of it is just the screen tickles me in all the right places

I definitely would. Who wouldn't want more screen real estate in the same form factor? OR the same screen size in a smaller form factor? Whichever way Apple goes, i eagerly look forward to this radical redesign of the ipad pro. The question is, will it be completely bezel-less...or will the slimmer bezels still allow a home button or face ID camera without the "notch" of the iphone x?

For me, one of the biggest failure points on ALL the ipads i have owned has been the home button. The home button on my current ipad mini 2 doesn't work at all. I had to set up a "virtual" home button. Even now, all ipads, including the current ipad pros still use a physical home button. I was really suprised that the latest ipad pros didnt even get the solid home button in the previous gen iphones!

So if there is room in the smaller bezels of the next gen ipads for a home button...please Apple...i beg you...make it a solid non mechanical home button! But if Apple does away with the home button entirely on the next gen ipads, i won't be dissapointed either. I'll just have to get used to not using a home button...which in a way...i already have since the home button on my current ipad doesnt work! Lol.

one reason why i am holding off on buying an iPad Pro. id definitely appreciate a larger screen real estate on a smaller form factor... that and an A11X chip or whatever would be mind blowing. the A11 itself is already a monster for multi-threaded workloads... would be perfect photo editing companion.

No. I have a 10.5” and I wouldn’t want anything smaller (I use the Smart Keyboard 90% of the time and don’t want to see it shrink). There really isn’t that much additional space to be gained by reducing the bezels, and, unlike the iPhone, you really need some sort of non-screen area on the front to use it while holding the device.

I'm just trying to figure out how you could hold a bezeless tablet over 7 inches? I mean, with a phone, you can completely hold it in your hand. In a Mini form, it would be great because you could hold it in one hand.
I use both hands, whatever size the tablet so no issue for me
If I have to type or touch I always use the stand/ASK
That said, I don't use my ipad while standing much

When you hold the tablet, do you grip the bezel? I'm sorry but a huge tablet with no bezels doesn't seem practical to ME, but other people's money is not my issue.

I probably wouldn’t be in any hurry to replace my 12.9. But my Air2 will need to be replaced one of these days, and if it were more screen in a smaller package, that would be nice.

Let’s deal in Facts.

#1. Face ID is less secure than Touch ID
#2. I don’t need “less”. Bezels
#3. Lack of a proper High Res Audio Codec by Apple for Bluetooth 5.0 Like aptXHD or LDAC means 3.5mm Jack provides higher quality audio than what any Apple device is capable of now.

This would be a downgrade. I’ll be keeping my 9.7”Pro until there is an OLED iPad offered. It’s not like the A11X chip will open Netflix or my email significantly faster than my A9X. It may load a webpage 1 Second Faster.

That wouldn’t get me to upgrade my 12.9 iPP gen 1. I prefer touch ID because it has more granular control between looking at the screen and unlocking. Sometimes I don’t want to do both, like if I just want to glance at a notification. With touch ID you have that option. Also I don’t like cameras looking at me all the time, which is why I cover up the front cameras on all my devices when not in use, which of course undermines the convenience of face ID. And I like the current size of the 12.9 device and the bezels. I prefer decent-sized bezels for holding the iPad comfortably without worry of accidental presses or covering up content.

I’m pretty happy with it as is. It’s plenty fast, and there’s really not much more I require from it. The only thing that would get me personally to upgrade:
- native support to use as an external display with a Mac, with pencil input and pencil cursor hover support

Other minor things that would be welcome but not crucial (none of these would actually get me to upgrade before my current one gets too slow):
- less glare and smudge screen, with more “tooth” for pencil drag
- there’s never too much storage capacity, I can always fill it up
- more battery life when using with pencil
- touch ID 2
- waterproof, for the heck of it
- weight reduction I guess
- promotion I guess (I tested in store a few times side by side, barely noticed it)
- forward facing speakers
- front/back camera sliding covers haha

But if we’re talking about an iPad mini update, I’ll pretty much take anything.

You should research a bit more on a couple things...
Face ID while not perfect is much, much more secure than Touch ID.
But you are correct that wired audio is still a bit better than Bluetooth, but with 4.2 and 5.0, these days I can barely tell any difference (I’m an actual audiophile) my vision is not great, but my hearing of subtle variations and issues with sound is something I use everyday. My main issue with certain Bluetooth (mostly anything before BT 4,) is those devices have some slight humming noises, syncing issues, and distortion compared to wired audio.
But, like I wrote before, BT 4.2 and 5.0 have increased their quality drastically, so much that I can barely tell any difference. Soon BT will be equal or (I dare to say it) superior to wired (not in sound but convenience.)

Also OLED is a technology that looks great but the cons outweigh the pros. The longevity is much shorter than LCD, pixels die faster, and are more prone to damage, the price is way too high still, it isn’t as durable when it comes to water damage, and image retention is still a major issue and super annoying.

Kallum.

I literally had the iPad Pro 12" in my shopping cart on Verizon just now....until I realized 'hang on, maybe I'll wait til May or June and see if the iPad Pro gets the X treatment.

Hence, I am waiting. I currently have an iPad Air 2 which is barely touched to be honest. I either use my X or Mac and VERY, VERY seldom touch it. I'm thinking with the huge screen of the iPad Pro it would be a bigger difference than the iPad Air is to me. Currently, I feel like it's just a bigger iPhone - but compared to my X with a lower quality screen and slower speed.

Hmm....
