Wrap-Up of Apple's iOS 5 and iCloud Launch Day

Hey guys,

I have iphoto 9.1.5. For some reason it has never showed up in the app store. I got the new iPhoto right before the app store was released. So does anyone know I can update iPhoto to this newest one with the iCloud integration? I know you are suppose to update it through the app store but how do I get it to show up in there if I bought it before the app store?

Just go to software update in settings or in the dock. It will find it in there. Was kinda of surprised the update was not in the App store but my experiences with Apple is if it is not in one place then it is in another. :)
 
iCloud, MobileMe, Aliases/Aliasi, disabled Aliases etc

Ok, here's my $0.02.

Transition to iCloud as a former iTools --> .Mac --> MobileMe user was initially not able to be completed, and I was given the "error try again later screen" several times.
Late last night, I attempted it - and it completed.

MacBook Pro
Everything works flawlessly. Mail app is still using MobileMe settings (i'm sure a software update will fix this.
iCloud system preferences pane is pretty much the central hub to all things iCloud.
I noticed that when I try to click the "Mail & Notes" check box the system constantly unchecks it when I close system preferences.
Photo stream requires and update for iPhoto. You then need to go into iPhoto and enable photo stream. Then you need to enable it on your iPhone. Haven't figured out where to go yet to actually see the stream.

iPhone
There are some bugs - iPhone sometimes says that the login and password is incorrect, even though all info is correct and it downloads emails sporadically when it's operational.
Wifi sync & iCloud sync work perfectly.
There is a actually iCloud setup like MobileMe, but 100% more baked/clean.

Airport Extreme
This may need an update - I have a new message that says "MobileMe login or password is incorrect". I have triple checked this and I presume it's because of the iCloud transition.

Aliases / Aliasi
If you have multiple like I did, but back in June when they disabled the ability to enable/disable/add/remove aliases - the good news is once you transition to iCloud all alias functions come back. You are able to add/remove/disable/enable aliases. What about aliases that you had that were disabled? They transition as well, though you will have to re-enable them in iCloud.
Someone said that what if you login to iCloud with one of your aliases - I tried and it didn't recognize my login/pwd combination. You have to use your apple id or your MobileMe main account info. If your experience is different - please share.

Yeah I hit software update last night. It took 10 hours to download it all. I am not sure it had an update from iPhoto though, because I thought it was suppose to be in the app store like everyone else has been saying? What version number is your iphoto. I know I do not see any photo stream. And it asked me about iCloud for contacts, calendar, etc, but not for iPhoto. I wonder if there is any other possibility.

I'm not sure what you did when ios5 was installed, but in my case, the process removed everything and then slowly, painstakingly added everything back. When I initially turned the phone on, nothing was there...not even the apps...but over the course of nearly 2 hours, they all migrated back...

Turns out multitasking gestures do not work on iPad 1 for whatever stupid reason or rather they don't even show up in Preferences/General. Only shows up on iPad 2. What a bummer!! :mad:

I had this too on my iPhone 3GS. I was not restoring from the original computer I started on, as I was at work, but I transferred all purchases and sync'ed before performing the update, so it should've been fine. Nope, all Apps gone after the upgrade :(

So I took it home and plugged it into the original computer, selected Sync Apps in iTunes and got them all back that way (albeit slightly older versions, and no memory of my App folder structure). Not at all ideal, but the quickest I could think of. Otherwise it seemed to be that I'd have to download them all individually from the Cloud. Not impressed, Apple.
 
After 2 failed attempts [ error 3004 ] I gave it about a 3 hour rest and attempted a third time. When I plugged my iPad into my Mac I got another error message saying that my iPad had to be restored,so I figured I would go with it. After the restore was complete,miracle of miracles iOS 5 was there. Don't care how it happened,just glad it did. Now have to figure out which new features are going to work for me.

Updated 3gs runs better than ios4....buttery smooth unbelivblebleble

Butt i have a question...at start up it asked me do i want to use icloud and since it is 3gs i sad no..because i wanted to see will it lag.

since it is sooo smooth i decide to set it up but i don't know how.

It is gray in the general settings


EDIT:

I had restriction on changing email accounts....now works

me too, it deleted email I had saved on my iPhone. Also, I have duplicates of
calendar events...overall I like it, once I figure out the calendar issue.

Help?

Does anybody know why I can iMessage some people and not other? Both on iOS5 iPhone 4, I send iMessage to one, they can reply. I send a message to another and they get a text message (they can also iMessage other people so we should all be on the same )
 
So does anyone know why in the Camera app on the iPhone4 and iOS5 that they removed completely the zoom function for both still pictures and video?

It is there, but they have removed the indicator until you zoom. Just pinch your fingers together as usual and it should work.
 
"Restoring iPhone Software" fixed!

Hi guys!

I've finally found the solution to being stuck at "Restoring iPhone software" in iOS 5 update! The problem was the "WiFi Sync" app previously installed on your phone! Go here for the fix http://tinyurl.com/ipsw4-0g
