Series S reviews are out.

Unfortunately it's difficult to judge its performance difference to the Series X until next gen titles are ready.

What makes the Series S more interesting than it was last week, is the revaluation that the PS5 is only capable of 120fps at 1080p.......just like the Series S.

This debunks the myth that the Series S is not a next gen console. Therefore, if your priority is high frame rate then the Series S is worth considering. So far there are more xbox titles than PS5 titles that support 120fps.

Obviously there will be some next gen games for which the Series S won't have Ray tracing or 120fps. However this needs to be weighed against the very affordable price, discrete form factor and value of game pass.

You can buy a Series S and a 120hz monitor for less than the price of a Series X or Digital PS5.

Interestingly the Series S is selling for just over retail price on eBay and other website.

I think that the console has a huge image problem. No one knows what it is.

MS advertise it as a 1440p/120fps console but it's actually running most games at 1080p or even just below. At 120fps Dirt 5 runs at 600p.

There is clearly a big disconnect between the advertised and actual performance.🤷‍♂️

Although it shows some signs of brilliance in Watchdog Legions, it's very uncertain whether future games will be series x/ps5 versions cranked down to 900-1080p.

The Series S will face great challenges in 6-12 months when a used Series X or PS5 can be picked up for barely more than a new Series S.

@Macalicious2011

Early days for S series, a few up scaled 4K 60 FPS -a small number of 120 hz starting to surface.
S has never been marketed as the very best, though a ver smart little console indeed.
Most gamers of course will want the very best be it X or ps5, Native 4K where available.

Personally, once I invest in hdr next year or two, then maybe I'll be deciding again how necessary 4K console is.
Until then I've got to get better after a few years of not playing games!

That's the problem. The graphical and visual performance greatly varies.

Interestingly in the recent Digital Foundry video, they also mention the disconnect between the 1440p marketing and the actual 900-1080p performance in several games.

MS rationale for releasing the console is very sound. The console exists because the cost of Series X and PS5 won't be able to come down over time at the same rate as previous gen consoles.

At the end of the day it's better to have a Series S than not have a next gen gaming console.

It will be interesting to see how both it and the Series X perform in 1st party games.
