Hey all, I've been doing Youtube reviews of watches for years. Ive had every Apple Watch since Series 0 and finally got around to doing an unboxing and physical walkthrough of the Space Black Titanium Edition. I compare it to the Space Black Stainless Steel, both of them on the Link Bracelet, as well as other straps.

Enjoy, and please feel free to give me feedback.

Thanks for the video, my link bracelet is my favourite band so would you recommend the black SS over the black titanium.
As much as I want the titanium, I’m thinking that using the titanium as a case on the Apple Watch is over-rated.

Titanium looks really nice. I was personally hoping it would had come out deep black brushed and work as a Brushed variation of Space Black and match nice with the Link.

It’s very subjective, so I can’t answer for you on what you should do. I’m ultimately going to return or sell the Titanium and stay with the Space Black Stainless Steel.

Thanks for the reply. I can understand why you would prefer the SBSS, personally after seeing both, the SBSS blackness just can’t be matched with any of the other materials.
It just looks so modern and perfect with the glass display.

Thanks, but do the same outside please. It is hard to imagine how they look under normal conditions on the titanium.

Having SBSS in the past and now ceramic, for me, ceramic is the one that cannot be matched with any other materials. Ceramic design is superiorly modern than SBSS and perfect with the glass display. SBSS looks like a regular black watch, while white ceramic brings out the best of dark glass and AW unique frame shape. People from afar know right away the ceramic wearer is wearing AW while people will not notice SBSS wearer having the AW on their wrist from the distance until they approach the wearers closely. Ceramic is the pinnacle of the AW series 5 due to its most beautifully made.

It’s all about the preference. I am very conservative in what I wear. I don’t like drawing attention. If I liked White, no doubt I would had gotten that White Ceramic. The Space Black SS is the perfect polar opposite. It’s almost like black mercury.

But Doug, thanks to your video I will probably stay with the space black SS.
Switch from AW4 SS black 40mm to AW5 SS black 44mm.
Link bracelet, milanaise and third party leather bands with black lugs and matcn better.

Thank you sir.

I agree Floriano, I really was hoping that Titanium would had been true Black.

Here are some outside photos:

@DougFNJ Ah Sir, I hate you. Outside it looks stunning with this band.

I was sure I will get SS ... now confused!

If your able to do so, buy both and return or sell the one that doesn’t work for you.

I was going to return the Titanium, but when I heard there was a wait through November, I sold it at cost to a fellow Macrumors member, worked out great as I subtracted money from the sale for the gray sport straps. Nice win win.

Thanks for the video. That's the exact comparison I was looking for.

I mostly wear the SB link bracelet and I was torn between SBSS and SBTi for a while too. The dark gray Edition California on the SB link looks stunning and the brushed appearance of the SBTi looks beautiful on the band under the correct exposure. However
  • The brush strokes don't match, they are horizontal on the SBTi case but vertical on the band.
  • It is obvious the band absorbs more light than the watch in direct sunlight. The SBTi case definitely looks dark gray rather than true black and clashes with the darkness of the link bracelet.
  • The sides of the lugs on the SB link bracelet are polished and blend better with the SBSS.
  • The band weighs 65-75g while the Ti watch is 35-42g (40mm-44mm respectively), the SS watch is 5g more than that so it sort of matches the weight of the band better. I find it odd to wear a watch that is much lighter than its band.
Now maybe I'm just OCD but these details matter to me.

And that's precisely why I decided on the Space Black in the end. The weight wasn't as big a deal to me as the coloring. I wish they made a Space Black Titanium Link Bracelet, that would had just simply worked.

Nomad has a pretty decent titanium link bracelet. The color might be a bit off from the SBTi watch since Apple applies a special coating on their Ti models. Also Nomad's band doesn't have that nice "push and pop" mechanism you can find on Apple's link bracelet.
