Still have almost two and a half hours until February here, but what the heck.
The first one's from my B&W, and the second one's from my iBook G4.

to take a screenshot press command+shift+3, you can then open that PDF in preview and export it to a jpeg and then just add that picture as an attachment in your post

Here's mine. Simple as usual with only a few icons on the desktop. Adium is in the corner with a color scheme to match the desktop. iTunes is playing The Music's Welcome to the North album. My dock is hidden off to the top right.

My Powerbook is out at AppleCare right now getting some things fixed, so unfortunately, I leave you all with my Windows desktop... It is probably the most pleasant one you'll see though....

EDIT: It's a custom XP Skin, with matching Firefox and Trillain skins, made by these guys: Enhanced Labs (http://www.enhancedlabs.com/main/lha/)

Lee TomCustom XP skin, or is that Longhorn? (Sure reminds me of some Longhorn screenshots I've seen... especially the Windows logo in the lower-left corner, where the Start menu should be.)

First pic of my desktop on MR.

Apologies that it's on a PC. But having bought an iBook for my daughter last year, and I'll probably be getting a Mac Mini for my son soon, so the purchase of my own Mac will have to wait. Oh well, the joys of parenthood :)

For those that are curious about the pic, it's Jaques Cousteau's daughter diving in the fresh water caves in the Yucatan in Mexico. Not a place to get lost, because it's 100% pitch black in there and some of these underater tunnels are literally miles long.

Mine isn't much different to last month :) But I'm in a wi-fi cafe now so haven't got the external drives plugged in. There's another mac user across the table from me... hehe. I guess my downloading from iTunes is sucking the bandwidth.

To attach thumbnails in the forum, in the reply window, scroll down to where it says, "manage attachments," and follow the prompts to upload the image to the MR server. But there are a lot of limitations in terms of file size, so be forewarned. ;)

BTW, I like the cityscape. You have interesting resolutions, though...with a picture 410 pixels high, what do you do with the rest of the screen? Black bars like a letterboxed movie?

 please don't hurt me :D

use the program "grab." it should be in the utilities folder under applications. it will let you capture the whole screen or just part of it.

there are other ways to do this, but this is easiest because it is a free program that is included in the OS.

never be afraid to ask around here..... we very rarely hurt people ;)

The reason for posting thumbnails and not the full image is mostly to spare those on slower connections, but it's also because someone browsing with a smaller screen doesn't appreciate the 2560 x 1600 pixel screen shot from your spiffy new 30" screwing up all the tables making it so they have to scroll to the right to read everything.

Oh, and people are here to look at the desktops, so you don't really need to make them more noticable (it's not like it's a contest to see who gets the most comments on their desktop background). I can see the thumbnails just fine, if I want to see what your individual icons are I'll click on the thumbnail to see it bigger.

After the fog lifted and left the hoar frost, it melted in 30 minutes when the sun came out. Limited window of opportunity there. And I had to use my little Canon S30 - not a very good camera and had limited depth of field. If I had used a DSLR I would have had more detail in the foreground and less in the background (what I really wanted). But I have to wait a little longer on the Canon 20D......

Geek pride. It's like gay pride, only different - less socially acceptable!

I took both photos at gala events... they're old diesels from the mid-1960s - Maybach, Voith/Mekydro powered diesel-hydraulic beasts. I guess from the morbid historian's point of view, I appreciate the technological breakthrough these things were. At the same time, as pieces of industrial design they're stunningly beautiful (IMHO).

It's quite interesting going to diesel galas as a fairly well rounded, socially skilled 22 year old - you meet loads of really nice people, but who haven't quite got the hang of conversation just yet! Count the anoraks...

I wonder if elizabeth will disown me later on in this thread

surprisingly I've had better luck with w98 than I ever have with 2000 or XP, prolly the main reason I've hung onto it. But this machine is being quickly replaced, perhaps even tommorow. That is your private IP address. Only computers on your internal private network will recognize it. In order for an outside computer to get it, you will need to use your public IP address, as well as forwarding port 2000 to that computer. Go here http://www.dslreports.com/whois to find out your public ip address.

EDIT (for the nth time -sorry!): Hmmm - not quite what I wanted - just wanted to show a smaller piccie underneath the "attached files box". Ah well - will have to work out how to do that one day (hint hint ;))

It's "like" the weather widget in Tiger.

wow that things great! Its just like tiger :D! It tells me what shows are on! and the weather!

Now the only 2 widgets I need are: One to tell me the snow conditions in Whistler, and one to tell me the NHL scores-- oh wait nooooooooooo {cry}

enjoy it while you got it... because it's gonna run out after that free demo and you have to pay for it. I'd use it for 30 days then wait on Tiger...

im pretty sure that there's a 30 day "trial" then you gotta shell out the bucks... tell me if i'm wrongIt turns into nagware after 14 days... not sure what happens at 30 days, because I removed it from my machine. It's not that I didn't like it, but I don't pay for bits (they don't sell a retail package with a CD, so I'm not buying it).

14 days... my bad... its been a while since i've deleted it, so i didn't remember if it was 2 weeks or 30 days... i just assumed it was like most other things and it was a full month's trial... it kinda sucks having to pay for something that'll be available in a copula months...

Got it from Astronomy Picture of the Day (http://antwrp.gsfc.nasa.gov/apod/), where I get most of "my" space pictures.

This in particular is the Helix Nebula, and you can read more on the APOD entry for Dec 29 2004 (http://antwrp.gsfc.nasa.gov/apod/ap041229.html). Just click the image for the large version. In this case very large. I had to crop it to make it fit the screen better...

That's just wrong. It's bad enough that we don't have hockey, but then you have to go and remind us about it. Well, at least my team won the cup before the lockout. :D http://www.tampabaylightning.com/images/online/lightning_logo.gif

Come on, wasn't it awesome to see Dave Andreychuk raise the Cup for the first time in his 22 year career? It was a lot better than it would have been if Jarome Iginla was the one raising the Cup.

I would've been more than happy seeing Iginla with it, and even more happy seeing my favorite goalie, Miikka Kiprusoff, with it. It was just incredible for Calgary to make it that far. The last Canadien team to make it into the finals was Vancouver in 1994. Ten years is a long time. Although it's been even longer since my favorite team, Boston, made the finals.

The amsterdam one was actually pretty decent this year. Most of the major car manufacturers were there except for Fiat, Alfa Romeo and Lancia. Don't worry though, the lambos and all the other really expensive rides are barriered-off here as well. Porsche only had 3 cars on display and BMW was being skimpy... the put the 645, x5, z4 and M5 in these kind of display aquariums which then did all kinds of light shows with sound. Only the new 1-series actually was on a proper stand that allowed you to check them out.
Besides that a good experience though!
