View Full Version : Bookarc for iPad as stand for 11.6" Air?

I think it is reasonable to assume that the 12South Bookarc for iPad would hold the 11.6" Air (by taking out the silicone insert) but I wanted to ask if anyone was actually doing this. If so, is it a fairly snug fit?

For those that might start asking "Why do you need a stand?"...well, not all of us have huge desks and home offices, and I need every inch of desk surface available, so standing it up beside my 23" LCD would do the trick.

Anyway, let me know if you have any experience with this setup. Thanks!

as a lil advice: do not do that!

the bookstand's spacing is to narrow for the 11" MBA,... it will scratch up your macbook awfully! better go with the "Compass" provided by the same company.

you may have a look at my setup here:

I have actually seen your setup, and it's quite nice. However, while you have a relatively long desk, my desk is 32" long, with a 23" display centered on it. So, the Compass stand idea doesn't work - I have a similar stand for my iPad and tried it in various configs with no joy.

I'll likely wait til 12South has an insert made for their full-size Bookarc and go for that. In the meantime I may make a little diy project out of this.

I ended up using a business card holder to stand the Air vertically. Forgive the poor quality of the pics

The card holder is here (http://www.officedepot.com/a/products/886149/Office-Depot-Brand-Business-Card-Holder/;jsessionid=00000oRc79xNdyB99ArHcn1-WRj:13ddq0ud1), but mine is clear.

I may revisit the compass stand idea...it may fit in the corner this way. Thanks shootingstar64 for sharing that idea with us!

Yep...just like I used it with my iPad before I bought a stand for it. iPad width=air depth, and it's standing fine even with a shaking desk.

Who cares what it costs, as long as it works.

You asked about the iPad product, but they do have a similar version for computers, the "BookArc". If you are interested in that one here are my observations:

I have the correct "BookArc for MacBook" from 12South, not the iPad version, complete with the original MacBook Air #3 insert (doesn't come with it, but they send you one on request). Of course, it worked fine with the original Air's, and I think it is OK with the new 11" Air (just slightly loose). Their website indicates they are coming out with new inserts for the new 11" and 13" Air computers soon, and they have a notification service to alert you when they are available. I don't know what the difference will be, but the original BookArc with MB Air insert seems to work fine with my 11" Air.

That's good to know. Thanks Howard. I'd read on their site about sending updates on specific product changes/releases for the new Airs, but it's good to get your perspective on the MacBook-specific BookArc. I'll sign up and keep an eye out for other options as they come out. I think Macworld is this week...maybe we'll see some stuff come out of that.

Thanks again.
