Since there is a iMac thread why not have one for the Mac mini. I don’t have mines as of yet, but this is what I plan on getting 1.42 GHz, 512 MB, BT, and Apple’s 20 inch Cinema Display.

Is there a white adapter you got with your Mac mini between the Mac mini and the monitor cable going to your computer? By default the Mac mini has a DVI connecter, however with the use of the DVI to VGA adapter, you can also hook up the Mac mini to a VGA monitor.

Actually, it is the 20" ACD. The 23" is amazing, but a little too much for my needs. Since I plan to eventually get a G5 PowerMac and move the mini next to the TV and stereo, I thought I'd get the monitor I really want.

The wallpaper is "EarthDesk". Pretty nice when you are conversing with friends in Europe.

Anyway I would say that you are luckey with a 20" widescreen display.
I have a 17" 4:3 (would like a PM and the 20" tough) :p

I can tell the monitor on the left is XP, and the one on the right is OS X on the Mini... What about the middle? I'm assuming it's dualing on Mac OS X? And what do you do about keyboards/mice? Do you have a KVM switch hidden somewhere around there?

The KVM switch in that pic is pretty obvious - unless its not a KVM switch.

Between 1st and middle monitor (WinXP and w/e OS that is) is a switch... probably the KVM.

thx guys, yes the Belkin KVM switch is between left and middle monitors. The center monitor hooked up to another Windows box not Mini as of yet. So the only Mini is one on the right. I use that MS keyboard and mouse (seen on the picture) for all PCs thru the KVM switch.

Altec Lansing has very good line of 2.1 speakers. They are a little pricey but beautiful to look at and sound pretty good. The only problem is gonna be to choose something tha will match grey macmini and black dell monitor?

I'm looking for speakers myself...

check out this link it shows the line for 2.1 sp at Altec Lansing site.
http://www.alteclansing.com/product_cat_stereo.asp?region=northam

I was even thinking to get Dell 5.1 speakers just because you can mount the senter speaker to the bottom of the monitor. now I don't now.

I don't know if they still make them, but the Altec-Lansing ATP3 2.1 Speakers are great. I have them, they are amazing... they are kind of older though... I'll try to find a newer model.

Anyway, they match perfectly. They are black, like the Dell monitor, but all the words/logo is gray, like the mac mini.

Edit: here is a pic from Amazon.com...

The speakers I already had. The keyboard & mouse came free with mini via macmall.com deal.

Since the mini looked like crap on a tv, I ran down to Walmart and bought their cheapest 17 inch monitor for $125. The KDS is actually very nice.

Wow! My mac mini shipped on 24th feb, did not recieve an e-mail from apple to confirm this. It stayed in luxembourg for 5 days, left luxembourg on the 1st march, and thats the last I've heard of it! do they normally take this long! my powerbook didn't take this long. to make matters worst, it has to merge with iwork 05 software and then be handed over to me to TNT so they can deliver. so much for the ETA of 2nd March!!!

Well, it came the same day, It had been transfered to TNT, for delivery so should have gone to their website to look at status, not apples.

I like to mouse because it has a scroll wheel and second button.

I think apple should really consider adding a second button on their mouse.

The res of the TV is 1366 x 768 which is perfectly viewable from my couch. Unfortunately I dont have an eyesight(yet), but neither does anyone I know so it would be pretty pointless me getting one at the moment.

I have always been a fan of small computers. I've had a G4 Cube, Shuttle XPC and currently have a Biostar Ideq gaming pc. I hooked the Ideq upto the TV and HiFi for a couple of games of Couter Strike:Source and it was fantastic. The 5.1 sound and the picture made it so involving, you really feal like youre there.

I will always have a PC for gaming, the 6800GT in the Ideq would be impossibe to fit into the mini, and I accept it. A little more graphics power wouldnt go amiss tho ;)

To be honest the mini is used mainly for watching DVD's (ripped and normally), DIVX and listening to MP3's. I also use it for web browsing/email, opening office docs and PDFs etc. It's not asthough I'm doing any graphics on it. For these sorts of things it's great. The screen is perfectly viewable from my couch and text is crisp and clear (1:1 pixel mapped screen).

However I do have Dreamweaver, Adobe CS, Flash and Director installed on it. If I ever want to use these I just pick the mini up, Minus the external Hard drive & Sonica, and plug it into my TFT monitor. It's not as though it's going to break my back ;)

Cool, may get one of them to replace my current KB

Thought I'd add mine to the growing list - I'm pretty chuffed with it (tho Visual's setup seems to be the smartest so far ;) )

Hidden behind the monitor is an aging Dell Inspiron 3800, which is also plugged into the monitor - I can switch between the two inputs easily. Only thing I have to do is take the USB hub out from the Mini and into the Dell. The two 'puters are networked through the hub on the window sill. The LG monitor by the way is wonderful - go DVI everytime!

Mac Mini specs are in my signature
Using it with...

Dell 2001FP
Acoustic Energy Aego 2.1 speakers
Apple BT keyboard/mouse

It works well in this little nook I have between my kitchen and dining room. It's funny, when I show it to family and friends they all think the sub is the computer at first. I'm say "No, the computer is that small box sitting on top of a subwoofer."

My big clunky PC rig with CRT and large Swans M200 monitors is in my bedroom... out of sight!

Visual,

Man your setup is the closest I've seen to match that of the one used in Remington Steele TV episode.Very nice touch in that cozy Condo Flat.

Man moving really takes a lot outta the pocket. STill no MAC; but the Mini which I've already ignored twice is now looking appealing.

Good news too since my daughter will be going to a summer art school; she already is selling here cartoon paper drawings to classmates & friends at her school. She is only 11!! I promised her if she saves for her Mini iPod 4G, then she'll have a Mac & graphite tablet to draw with; as long as I can use a USB music synth with it after bedtime. Deal has been struck. 1st its finding a good frosted glass desk. then I'll post my setup.

Personally I want to save for a 12" PowerBook but I cant be greedy, its my kids future & happiness I got here. My son is 7 and already wants a Mac, he refuses to use the dell at home ( they dont deserve capital D).

thanks everyone for posting beautiful setups.

They really do!! I mean, I've never driven one since I'm only 15, but I have sat in the 911 Cabrio, Carrera, Turbo, Boxter, and the Cayenne and they were all excellent! More offtopic: I still think they should've kept the air-cooled. Once the 996 hit the market, the machines were more advanced than original. They didn't keep alot of the same design. Now with the 997, Porsche is going back to there roots of the last 993! :)

although it would be very nice to have two or more :)

here's my setup as of today
http://www.yuru.be/mr/setup_mini_20050507.jpg
The mini's connected to a 2005FPW and a 200 Gb Maxtor OneTouch II for backup and files. There's a container of alien blood between the mini and the palm dock. The Plam is taking the shabby picture right now.
The rest is just some peripherals for less cool computers. As for the cable mess, i'll try to hide it, when i move into a new place. ;)

Not really my mini, but I ordered, tested and updated my father in laws mini before we drove it out to him and hooked it up to his printer (funny about that is that the mini recognized and configured the printer by it self much faster then I could do it manually, so when I was finished it already had a default printer... :))

We got him the 1.2 GHz mini with 512 MB RAM BTO, with an Apple Keyboard, a YuSmart 17" LCD (http://komplett.co.uk/k/ki.asp?sku=306480&cks=PRL) and a really cheap optical two button USB scroll mouse from Biltema (http://www.biltema.com/).

He already had a USB hub and the above mentioned USB printer.

Here's a picture from when I tested it home at my living room table (we didn't take off the protective plastic film covering the screen because we should transport it shortly after, thus the tape on the monitor):

When he just a week ago bought himself a Sony digital camera and that, too, just worked with the machine he was almost in awe (he also brought it to work, where he still has a PC, and there he had to install some drivers or other software for it to work...) :)

He actually said he no longer knew why he didn't switch MUCH earlier... ;) :D

This might be really stupid question.. But can you run Dual Monitros on a mini?

You will one day...some company says that they'll introduce a USB 2.0 to VGA adapter that works with Macs (currently, it's PC-only) in July for around $90.

As for out of the box, nope.

Sorry for the crappy quality; I don't have a digital camera, I used my camcorder to get the shot :)

Hi, the mouspad was pretty cool until I realised my mouse didnt get on with it (the pointer kept jumping). I now have a rubbish 50p rubber thing :(

With regards to the metallic stripes, yes it is wallpaper. Part of the Tate range. Its retro cool, but not always to everybodys liking. Love it or hate it I guess.

How did you get two monitors to run off a Mac mini?

It's a kind of a fake :) The one on the right is a PC, I just have it looking like my mac. I use a program called synergy (I pasted the link above), it can share your mouse and keyboard with any other computer on the network, so when I move the mouse to the right edge of my mac, it continues onto the left edge of my pc. Very convient since I still use PC-only apps, but it feels like dual monitors.

When Apple gets Front Row on the mini, I'm getting one for my living room home theater setup.

I've tried front row on my mini, and it runs fine. It's just a bit buggy (different DVDPlayer.app etc.) . However, it doesnt do what I really need #PLAY NETWORKED VIDEO_TS FOLDERS# :(

I've got a 1.5TB media server (win 2k3) with loads of content on it and no way to interface and play it, so I built my own :)

It uses a Macromedia Director GUI and an applescript backend, only took 2 evenings to get it working. It needs some refining but I might make it available for download once it's done.

Just to clear this up. That background is one from Digital Blasphemy, it requires a membership subscription. The guy really does some amazing work, and he supports HUGE resolutions. I use some of his dual and triple screen backgrounds for my dual 23 setup.

Anyway, I suggest dropping the few bucks if you really like the work there.
