All my accessories (Bt mouse & keyboard, extra battery, cords) are shipping through Same Day Right Away (Canada) are untraceable and coming at an undecided time even though they shipped on the 2nd.
My FedEx tracking# for my PB actually comes up as leaving China, so my lesson is get on the phone and ask for FedEx.
Hopefully everything works out for you.

even though i dont have a new pb on order (i wish i did!) but when i got mine it was a right pain. it was delayed several times (put back by about 3 weeks in total) and then when it shipped it looked like it went half the way around the world and back (i think it visited 5 counties in europe!) till they finally decided to give it to me!

I didn't have this problem with the first one.
Should I change my configuration?

My 17" BTO HAS BEEN DELAYED!!!! NOOOOOOOOO!
Orinigally it was supposed to ship on or before 2/7/05
IT WAS CANCELLED YESTERDAY!
And then shipping was updated to on or before 2/17/05.
This is seriously annoying.
Send me my G0Sh darn p0werb00k Steve, or I'll drive by Infinite Loop and throw poo at your employees.
Seriously, I'm 10 minutes away. And I can find fecal matter.
Heh. I'm about 15 mins from 1 Infinite Loop myself.
I ordered a 17" stock last night, and it's also scheduled to ship on 2/17. I think they're just waiting on more inventory.

apple online store still says it'll ship by 2/10 (as of this moment)
. . . hope my PB doesn't suffer the same fate!

I ordered my new powerbook as well and the AppleCare shipped via Sameday in Canada. Sameday wont have tracking information on the delivery until it hits Canada and by that point you usually get it the next day... good thing they don't ship the notebooks via sameday to Canada.

When a machine is "BTO," it means it is customized (for example, bigger hard drive, more VRAM, etc). Stores only sell stock models.
Why didnt you just buy the 17 in the store?
None of the Apple Stores in the SF Bay area have them yet.
But, HOLY CRAP! I just checked my order status (I've been obsessively doing so every 10 minutes since ordering the thing yesterday), and....

Ok, apparently I'm going to be saying "holy crap!" quite a bit tonight.

It's not being shipped from China, but from Sacramento, CA! And it's scheduled to be delivered TOMORROW!!!

FedEx said my PB had gotten to Alaska from China and passed through it's sorting centre, but now FedEx claims there has been a delay beyond their control and it say's it's shipping from China again (back at the first stage).
What's going on? Did they lie/make a mistake? or Break it and have to ship another one?
Fed Ex and their tracking system has always been good in the past, but this is weird.

I can't believe what is happening to me!!! I ordered a Powerbook 17" not BTO on the 01/31/2005 and it was due to ship on or before 02/08/2005. This morning I checked the status and it's now on or before 03/03/2005!!!!
I am such in pain. How come some of you have ordered their PB after me and already got it!! I ordered my PB the day it was introduced. Isn't the shipping like first arrived, first served??? OMG it hurts... What can I do?
Mine, 12" extra ram, shipped on Sunday from Shanghai via UPS and the last update was a departure scan in Anchorage at 23:09 on Sunday with a delivery date of 8 Feb. (Yesterday) Today it's showing the same info. Not good considering it hasn't been updated in 36 hours.

According to the UPS website, my 12" PowerBook w/Superdrive departed Anchorage at 5:20pm on Sunday, but hasn't had any new tracking information since then. I called up UPS at 1-800-742-5877, gave my tracking number, got transferred to the international shipping branch, and found out that my first PowerBook should be arriving tomorrow. :D

I'm right there with you. I sent a couple emails trying to find out, just to put my mind at ease, and I got the exact same response both times (obviously canned answers) - "due to unforseen manufacturing delays".
My only gripe here, is that a couple buddies of mine ordered the exact same config - 15"/BTO/SD/100G/1G/128 - and got theirs on monday.
So when I called apple, to find out if I needed to change my configuration, just to get it faster, and offered up the "break your order up and it might get faster". With that being said, I will receive my AppleCare & Spare Battery on friday. They will occupy a space on my desk for approximately 2 weeks before I get my PB.
Great suggestion Apple. ;) Now, those parts will be taunting me.

If you're customizing it (and you are), you have to order it direct from Apple... not much you can do but wait. If you can live with a stock machine, you might be able to find one at an Apple store or reseller.

Ditto. The 22nd was frustrating but ok, as that was 11 business days from my order...but the 28th is kinda out of line. What's the holdup? I ordered the 1.67 with 128MB vram and the 100gb hdd. So did we all order the vram upgrade or is it the hdd?
Just looked at the apple store, they're now quoting a 7-10 day ship time even for the stock units.

Maybe they're just giving us the "worst case scenario" or the "might as well be the end of the world scenario" ;) and we'll all ship tomorrow. But probably not. I seriously don't think it's the vram, when I ordered mine, stock units were shipping in 2-3 days, now it's 7-10 just like mine said when I ordered it. I think the entire supply chain is tanking, not just BTOs.
Man, I miss my G5 iMac, I only had it for 13 days and I developed a passion for it. <starts saving pennies>

So, do I call the Apple Store Sales Support if I need to change the shipping address?
I'm looking at moving at the end of the month, and the shipping date pushback has put it into march, where I very well would be out of my current apt. I'm going to try and call them tomorrow! This is horrible, I'm a switcher... but not until I get this machine! It is exciting but the delay in purchase is getting ridiculous, the lead time is to satisfy that demand should it overflow! An email from them would have been nice for each pushback, that way everyone isn't in the dark about why things haven't arrived. Sorry for ranting, I'm just worried this thing is going to get shipped to an empty apt.
Has anyone had experience with switching the shipping address after ordering?

Hey all. I may have a solution to some of the problems you are all having with shipping. I had been to hell and back with apple and powerbooks. They kept sending me ones that were bad and I had one in for exchange when the new ones came out. They sent me a new 15" right away, but right after I got it the screen started to go dark in one of the corners grrr. So I returned that one and decided to say scew student discount and order off Macconnection (tax free in most states). I noticed that most of the new powerbooks were in stock! Also they had a free 512MB memory upgrade on all their powerbooks as well. They charge $39 to install the ram and the stick of memory is free (after rebate). I was in a hurry so I ordered yesterday at 2 pm CST with overnight shipping (cost me $40 to ship). Now, I am typing to you all on that very powerbook ordered just 24 hours ago!! Best of all, it is pixel perfect :-) If you want a powerbook and all you want to change is the memory, then order it from Macconnection. Just an idea if you are all desparate. Cancel those crazy orders from apple and go with macconnection instead. :)

I wish I could cancel my order with Apple, but I bought my PowerBook using the once-per-lifetime student developer discount. I may have to wait, but I'm saving quite a bit of money - $1919 plus tax for the BTO 15" 1.67GHz (added 128 VRAM), which is $2399 retail. With tax, it comes to about $2085, so I'm still saving over $300. I'll just keep waiting...

I know it was only two days but I couldnt wait any longer so I bought it at compusa(they only had one and they just got it in that day) decided not to get the ram upgrade and got a gread deal on apple care. they knocked off 100.00 off the cost of it and gave me a free wireless mouse. i ordered my 15" BTO from the uk a couple of hours after the announcement and was given a shipping date of on or before 7th feb.
anyhoo the 7th comes along and still no news so i call up the apple people and get told that my order will definately ship in the next 24 hours :) i sleep peacefully and awake the next morning expecting the confirmation only to receive an email that said 'due to unprecedented demand blah blah' it'll now be on or before the 15th :(
imagine my delight on the 12th when i received an email saying it had finally shipped!! :D *cue crazy dancing around university computer cluster*
however i expected to have some form of update this morning on where it was, maybe somewhere over kazakhstan, or that it had arrived in amsterdam, anything other than the 'shipped from shanghai' message that had remained the same since saturday. there was no development so i gave apple a call again and the friendly ted informed me that he couldn't actually work out whereabouts my product was  but that he was sure it would arrive by friday and would confirm with the logistics department and get back to me
well, just got an email from the log dept saying that when it said 'shipped from shanghai' what they actually meant was 'sweet! chinese new year's here so lets have a party and leave the apple orders for a while. where's the tsing-tao*?' and that as a result my pb will in fact be shipped tomorrow and i'll have to wait at least another week for it to arrive!!
so to summarise my pb delivery experience so far:
:) :( :D
obviously i understand that demand can be underestimated and i dont have a problem with the dudes in shanghai celebrating new years with a coupla days off but i would appreciate if apple would communicate better so i know what's going on instead of feeding me bs!!! grrrrr...
*which is actually a damn nice beer. highly recommended.

No, they do it here in the US too. You can only get it through the education store, and it's not offered all the time - they usually have it going at the beginning of the school year (Sep/Oct).

Hi ColoJohnBoy,
The Cram and Jam thing is only offered on the "Educational" shop on the Australian Apple site. I dont know if u get it in the US. Basically you get a $200AUD cash back if you buy a iBook/PB and an iPod. However the only iPod you can get is the 20gig w/clickwheel and I wasn't allowed to get the free engraving. I already have a 20gig 3rd generation iPod so I sold it to my friend. He was well chuffed getting it for half price.
The beginning of the school year here is Feb/march.

Mmmm ... I ordered the same config via Apple Australia on 2/2/05 and I haven't seen any sign of movement either, nor I have seen any posts (either here or elsewhere) from people in Australia who have successfully received their BTO.
Is it possible that Apple has decided to ignore Australian orders completely until they have dealt with their supply issues elsewhere? That being the case, their Australian advertising would have been very disingenuous since the new machines' release ...

Damn hell ass.
I just received an e-mail from Apple saying they'd received a "transaction declined" notice from my bank. I called my bank, and their policy is to put a hold on charges over a certain amount. I cleared that up, called Apple, had the retry my card, and it worked. When I asked about shipping, though, they told me there is a shipping delay and that while the other items in my order (iWork, iTMS Gift Cards) will ship out immediately, my PowerBook won't ship out until the 23rd!!! What the hell? I selected the option to have all items ship at once! Why the delay?! Obviously, I've no use for iWork until the PowerBook gets here and I'd like to wait for the same to purchase music. Bah. This blows.

Estimated delivery date Feb 18, 2005, via FedEx
I'm STOKED, yesterday it said "on or before 2/22/05".
Can't wait... YEEEEEEEEESSSSSSS! Thanks Apple!

I dont know... From what I read on these forums it seems that people in the US (ColoJohnBoy for example) and the UK are also getting screwed around. Has anyone with a BTO received it by the intial shipping date???? Apple really needs to re-think their inventory strategy. Next time I will probably just buy the standard model and update the RAM myself - maybe that will be quicker (But then u can't update the VRAM or HD yourself - so there is no real solution) :(
bryng when were/are u supposed to get ur PB? Have they given u a revised shipping date?
Damn u eleveneastgate! No im happy for u (wish it was me). Was 2/22/05 your initial shipping date or a revised shipping date?

Ugh. Now that the estimated shipping time for the 15" is 4-6 business days (If it's at all accurate) I'm wondering if I cancelled my current order and re-ordered now if I wouldn't get the re-order sooner than the original.

Let me do some quick math:
Mine was initially 7-10 working days which now turns out to be 23 working days.
So the 4-6 business days u have been quoted in actual fact means 14 working days. :p
Im thinking of cancelling my order and getting the 17inch and upgrading the RAM myself. But i dont think I can cancel now. I think its too late. :(

Joy. I may not have a computer for another two weeks, but I will have a 1 GB SO-DIMM to play with after tomorrow. Newegg.com just shipped the Kingston RAM I purchased for $180. Mac-compatible, lifetime warranty and everything.

My 17 inch PB was FINALLY delivered... Bummer is... I'm stuck in Denver at the NBA All Star game waiting in the back of a TV truck... All I have to play with is my TREO 650 and my IBM thinkpad. What a bummer...
Oh yeah, I meant to say I hope you enjoy it here in Denver. My boyfriend and I have tickets to the games on Saturday and Sunday (I'm primarily interested in Destiny's Child, but I suppose the other stuff might be interesting as well.) Anyhow, have fun, and if I receive my PowerBook while you're still here I'll... I'll boast about it. :D

Shipping delays here to. I am in the UK, ordered a load of kit through my local Apple Centre, they said today that all the PowerBooks with a Superdrive in are delayed, and Apple can't tell them how long for. It looks like the same is true for the minis too, had one from them but my second with a superdrive is nowhere to be seen. And they can't track my order either.
Oh what fun!

Shipping to the UK takes forever, you guys in the states have it lucky.
I'm probably luckier than most in that my Powerbook shipped this time last week, and its STILL not in the Netherlands for onward shipping to the UK. Apparently it's due to be here by Friday - two FULL weeks after it shipped

A 15" 1.67 with 128mb VRAM and the 100gb HD. Plus a gig of extra RAM. :)
I have to say, the clunking noise people have complained about with the HD really isn't as loud as I expected. It is not dissimilar in volume to the "click" made by the iBook G3 800 I upgraded from.
But still, a very nice machine. The screen in particular is miraculous if you sit it next to the iBook ...

No dead pixels, which was a nice touch. :)
The trackpad seemed a little slow at first, but I think that was just me coming from a 12" screen where there really isn't much effort needed to move a cursor anywhere.
I initially turned the speed up. I have since turned the speed back down to a sensible level that doesn't see me overshooting everything.
The trackpad button was a little sticky at first, but has worked itself to a nicely loose state after just a couple of hours of use.

So I got my 1.67 PB 15" SD last week.
And I had a nerve racking time waiting for it. Was all over the rumors sites, and officially had it in my hands... thus completing the madness that consumed me as I anxiously awaited.
So now I'm back to where I started...
or rather... am not starting. My new powerbook crashed tonight, and upon starting it up, I get three beeps, and the sleep light goes on. I've seen this on other sites, and was able to successfully power it up after a few (15) tries later on, only to have to problem repeat.
Called Apple. They filed a dispatch and I'm sending it in for repair.
Here we go again. So I've reverted back to the iMac G4... but now I get to fight my family for it.
Incidentally, if anyone has any feedback on this issue... please PM me. I would like to know whats going on.

Feel your pain. After ordering on the first day, within the first couple hours, I finally received mine on the 18th of feb. Got to play with it about 2 hours, not even. Wouldn't read my airport extreme card, wouldn't read my USB ports. Flashed out every now and then. Mine was going through the same type of stuff, just a total eclipse. What they told me they had to do was replace the PMU (power mgt unit). So, mine recently made the trek cross country (I had the surgeons at the Genius Bar handle the return), and it awaiting it's turn into the ER. I'll probably get it back some time next week.
Round and round we go. Somebody please quit putting quarters into the merry-go-round. I want this ride to stop. :(
