Great MP3 Playing Micky Dolenz! My buddy named his shuffle "Sir Reginald Winterbottom III."

My 4th gen 40GB is aptly named "Q-bert Jones." He helped me with that. He's been thinking of starting an iPod Naming Service.

He's been thinking of starting an iPod Naming Service.Yarr, my iPod was also aptly named with a ridiculously long, somewhat Britishly stuffy name. (Not "Sir Terwilliger Jones IV," however. That's the name of my inanimate rabbit.) The iPod has since deemed that he'd like to be known collectively as Gromit, though Wallace is an iPod shuffle waiting on a shelf in the Apple Store for me right now, unpurchased. (The poor guy. )

i don't have an ipod, but i have names for my three computers:

clamshell ibook - which i simply call ibook
compaq presario model 1272 laptop - pc laptop
dual g4 power mac - dual g4

i used to collect guitars and have had nearly 60 instruments at one time or another and i only named one, which was a kit made superstrat i called "the black monster"...i felt i should at least name one guitar since clapton called his favorite guitar "blackie" (a conglomeration he put together from parts from 50s and 60s fender stratocasters)...today i just have one guitar, an esp/ltd, and i don't have a name for it

but if i get a new mac, and it's an ibook, then i will have to give it a name since my old clamshell ibook has the name "ibook" already

so, any suggestions?...besides "ibook 2" or "g4 ibook"?

My old Pismo is named treskjegg (the Norwegian name for trebeard) from Tolkien's Lord of the Rings...

While it shows up this way in iTunes it mounts to the desktop as "BAMBOO SHOO". Not really sure why although I'd assume a limitation of characters for some silly reason.

if i do get a new ibook, and the old one i have is still working, then i will have to come up with a name for the new ibook to distinguish the two machines

instead of "ibook 2" or "new ibook", i may call the new ibook something from an opera

of course, if the old ibook breaks down (and it's too expensive to fix), the the new ibook will be called, "ibook"

i have done gardening and landscaping as a business since the 80s, but one year i decided (more for the sheer fun) to get into tree trimming with chainsaws

though not terribly expensive (from $200-$550), chainsaws cost a mint to get repaired and serviced ($45 dollars an hour)...which one has to do much more often than a car

in no time at all, one's biggest costs are fixing the darn things since they are actually quite delicate with two cycle engines

well, the man who fixed my saws was named jim

so to get on his good side, i called my saws big jim, little jim, and jim jr (for my climbing saw)...i swear because of that, he charged me less and really took the best care of them

one day while drinking beers with the lumberjacks and tree trimmers at the garden tool shop, i met a man who had a crooked face right down the middle due to a very unfortunate chainsaw accident...that spooked me so mightily and kept me up at nights that after just a year with that side business, i quit doing anything that required chainsaws

Mine's Ginkgo.

It all started in 1996 when my roommate at the time named his new PC "Peanut." We used nut names for the rest of the computers in the apartment. My PowerMac 7600 was named Doughnut. When I got an OS X Mac in 2002, the G4 (still my main computer, typing on it now) was named Coconut (since OS X comes with Cocoa). The wife's iBook is named Pumpkin (looks like a huge nut, her favorite band is Smashing Pumpkins).

So then I got my 3rd gen iPod. Well, it turns out that the native translation of Ginkgo is "small, white or silver nut." Perfect description! ;)

My iPod Shuffle's name is Besser!
Why the name Besser? 2 reasons:
1) first song i heard on the playa was by the band Dressy Bessy
2) i was going to name him Curly after the "Curly Shuffle" but i thought other people would name their iPod Shuffle "Curly". So I went with the other "3rd Stooge", Joe Besser

hence the name of my iPod Shuffle---> Besser

My 2G 10gig's called Ummon (goes with the WinterMute reference) I'm looking at a new 40 gig, but it means I have to ge read some Gibson again to find another name...
Use Count Zero. Best. Name. Ever.

Or figure out what the cube is called in pattern recognition. I can't remember if it had a name or if it was just "<character name's> cube".

I call my 4th gen iPod Megatron. Not original, but I can't recall the clever names I gave to my other 3G iPods that wound up being sent back to Apple. Megatron's been the healthiest so far.
I'll give you two you might like and you can pay me later. These are both noise bands, one from Chicago (or maybe detroit? I forget) and one from Japan:
Gravitar
Negatron (see, you just change one letter, instant creativity!)

PEDRO III

It's my Gen 3(I think) iPod. It is the 15GB with the four buttons and clickless scroll. I named my TiBook G4/400 (512) Johan Allahamuhahalalalala

I named my Alienware Area 51(Intel P4... I know, this is a MAC forum, but cut me some slack, because I am diverse) Hey-Rod Griff-Dawg III jr.▓

That name was given to me quite compassionately during one of my comp classes, by a friend, over rendezvous.

The crappy P4 downstairs is named Steven Paul Jobs

My brother's P4 from HP is named Escudo. I'm sure most of you should remember GT3's Suzuki Escudo Pikes Peak Edition... the fastest rally car known in the game. I mocked his crappy 2.56 GHZ P4 with the name.

I have an iPod photo yet unpurchased named Mickey, and a shuffle(1GB) also unpurchased named Maurice, in the legacy of my grandfather.

My cell phone is named Bill.

So, yeah, I rambled a lot, being my first post and all, but I felt the names of my machines are creative.

Also, my server is named Watson, since it's the whole server(butler) type thing.

Good to meet all of you here at Mac Forums.

Mine is called Stomp Box, named after a They Might Be Giants song (http://www.tmbg.org/band-info/songs/lyrics/StompBox.html). Actually, the first part of its name is my phone number, followed by the fun name. Jaxter III
Jaxter for absolutely no reason. Thought of it one day... Nothing to do with anything, really.
III because it's the third iteration of Jaxter. I sold the first Jaxter (30GB 3G) so I could pay for Jaxter II (40GB 4G), which then got stolen. Luckily, I traded a modified xbox for a mini (sold on ebay), and a 20GB 4G, Jaxter III. It'll be replaced fairly soon, especially if a video ipod comes out.

I think I may get Jaxter nano soon. We'll see.

I love it but;
1) Downloading the Ricky Gervais PodCasts makes me look stoopid as I walk through town laugh out loud to stuff nobody else can hear.

Sort of, AFAIK, it's just a limitation of FAT32, the file system format that Windows-formatted iPods use. The biggest positive of FAT32 though, is that you can use it with Macs too. It can be used across both platforms. :)

512 Shuffle: Sammy Shuffle
20GB 3G iPod: Sammy

Now, what to call my new iPod when I get the 60GB soon? I think I may have to break away from the Sammy name. Although, since I will be selling Sammy, perhaps I shall name it Sammy 2 or Sammy Junior. :)

Formerly known as "Tiger" now known as "The Replacement".

The 6GB I won when Tiger was released, but the battery died on me. Today I went to Apple in Soho and they gave me a refurbished one.
