no "ok to disconnect" message on 4G iPod?

Did you get the new update?
If yes, this happed before...
1) you can restore.
2) you can make sure iTunes isn't automatically ejecting the iPod by checking if its still there. If it is, just click eject.
I don't know any other ways...
You can hold MENU and PLAY to reset it also.

i never had it on the 4G, but if the ipod is booted into fw disk mode, (by at the apple screen on a reboot holing down enter and play) it will show the message.
It's normal. From memory, mine (a 4G) goes straight to the main menu. It might flash with the 'OK to disconnect' message first, but only momentarily.
My mini used to show the "Ok to disconnect", but stopped after the 1.2 update (the current one is 1.3), so I think you're safe...
