Walmart is updating its iPhone app with a number of new tools to make shopping easier at the world's largest retailer, reports GigaOm (http://gigaom.com/2011/11/08/walmart-iphone-app-adds-shopping-lists-budgeting-tools-coupons/). Walmart released its first iPad app (http://appshopper.com/lifestyle/walmart-for-ipad) at the beginning of this month.

From GigaOm (http://gigaom.com/2011/11/08/walmart-iphone-app-adds-shopping-lists-budgeting-tools-coupons/):
The new iPhone app, which should be available in the next few days, packs in a number of features, including a new smart shopping list tool that allows people to speak their shopping list into their phone to create a list. Users can also create a list by scanning a barcode or typing in products. The shopping list, which can be shared by email, can be paired with a new budgeting tool that pulls up real-time prices for products, so consumers can calculate their bill ahead of time. And they can grab manufacturer coupons for the items on their list or find other coupons for products at Walmart. Users will need to print out the coupons from an email.

Walmart will enable users to pull product information -- including reviews, ratings, price and availability -- from the app. They'll also be able to scan QR codes for information. In a test in a limited number of stores, Walmart will provide a store item finder tool that tells people the exact location of products. It can work with a smart shopping list, which can organize the products by their location. The Walmart apps for iPhone (http://appshopper.com/lifestyle/walmart) [Direct Link (http://itunes.apple.com/app/walmart/id338137227?mt=8)] and iPad (http://appshopper.com/lifestyle/walmart-for-ipad) [Direct Link (http://itunes.apple.com/app/walmart-for-ipad/id473539089?mt=8)] are available free from the App Store. The updated iPhone app should be available soon.

I am very happy about this. I have been looking for an app that will allow home grocery inventory mangement by barcode. This allows some of that which I think is awesome. Thanks walmart.

Not too sure about this. An app that covers multiple stores seems more useful.

I've been considering making an app just like this for my local grocery store.

Like I always say, I boycott this Chinese outlet store for more than a decade. Before that I probably been to that anti-American and job killing place a few handful times that I regret.

F the app and that store. It's the role model to all the other stores on how best to outsource jobs , shut factories in U.S and mistreat associates.

so yeah, f this app !

It doesn't have any barcode features, but here you go:

Yea, he likes to pay double for the same Chinese product in a upscaled store. Smart!

Seems you own a lot of Anti-American, job killing technology. Thank god you didn't buy them at Walmart.

What's weird is that the iPhone and iPod touch still don't have a built-in QR code scanner app built-in.
