However, sources close to Apple say it is only a matter of weeks before the company begins to introduce its summer hardware line,

For some reason, I'm not all that excited or interested in what they might make available....its way too early to see any Intel stuff and all the G4 and G5s will be speed bumps when they're introduced...

I already bought my Mini, so I'm not excited... But it will be good to see some fresh hardware coming.

I´m so curious that I will hold my eMac purchase until I see what Apple is going to come with. I wouldn´t be surprised if sales have gone down a little since the Intel thing was announced, so Apple might pull a rabbit out of the hat. :p

Well, since I can wait a little, I think it is worth it.

I am expecting some iBook updates quickly following the end of the Educational Rebate offer for $100. PowerBooks aren't ready for anything new, and it wouldn't surprise me if the iBook update once again started rubbing up against the low-line PowerBooks.

Apple knows that PB and iBooks shoppers are usually looking for two different worlds of computing and don't regularly consider the proximity between model lines. Granted, a friend of mine uses a 12" iBook with Final Cut Pro for his frequent university projects (maxed RAM helps that quite a bit).

It would be great to see Mac mini updates along with the iBook updates; but with the announcement that low-end Macs will be the first to make the Intel move in early 2006, I'm not sure if Apple will change the current Mac mini make-up only to change it again in another 8-10 months. The desktop Macs seem to have a longer span between updates than the mobile models.

But I am excited for some new models nonetheless. I'd really like to see something new with the Airport Express.

Except that would surely fall foul of the law in the UK where you have 28 days or 30 days to return an item if you don't want it under the distance selling regulations. There are some caveats about custom orders, but they are more about if they make the product unsellable (like names on pencils) rather than "omg 1GB RAM" ...

if that than it is not a big dealThey might change the GPU to something thats fully Tiger compatable, perhaps the FX5200 (DX9 class) compared to the current 9200 (DX8 class).

Yes, me too.

PowerBooks will probably be the first to have Intel chips, so it's not worth bringing out a G5 right now (even if it were possible).

I'm not particularly interested in minor speed bumps across the board. Woo-hoo:rolleyes:

I am, however, eager to see how Mac sales are affected by the Intel news. I predict Apple will use any announcement of speed increases to also reduce pricing, if only to keep product moving out the door while we wait on InteliMacs to ship. For every person saying "buy a PPC Mac now" you hear someone else cry "who would buy a PPC Mac with Intel around the corner?"
If you aren't enticed into purchasing a G4 iBook or PowerBook (or eMac or mini) by minor spec enhancements, perhaps a price reduction would sweeten the deal. Keeping product moving to maintain market share AND reduce inventory of G4 processors in the pipeline ought to be critical focal points at Apple these days.

Same as AUS in Singapore, the old Power Mac is still on the shelf.. But I notice something strange, the picture of iBook in Singapore has a NEW on each model, but nothing is indicated in the US despite same configuration...

It's the same in the Australian store but I think the "NEW" label has been there since the last update. Anyone able to confirm or deny that?

Is that to do with the fact that the 'new' tag is based on the last X products to be added to the store? I was looking at the 'new to the store' lists in a few countries and most still have the iMac and eMac but the US store has all sorts of other random products.

Maybe the 'new' tag just represents the last X products added to the store?

Not sure about it... One thing I am sure about is that HK, SG and AU uses the same online store platform. Therefore, the pictures it used should be the same, except the price, haha...

I think that's why we still see the older model of Power Mac inline with those with a NEW tag.

Single Processor 1.8G5's are gone :(Considering Apple introduced the single 1.6 Ghz G5s TWO YEARS AGO!! as their low-end model, it's about time they dropped the single PM from their lineup.

Triple :D :D :D to your :(

Well now that there are no more single CPU PMs I sure hope they address that damn chirpping sound soon. That was enough to make me abandon the G5 PMs for awhile.... I didn't really need that much speed anyways but it was sure nice to have it in case ;)

Unlikely: Powerbook and Powermac updates

Likely: iBook updates, possible Mac mini updates (especially since shipping time is longer now), Possible new product entirely (e.g. introduction of a new product line to keep them afloat while the Intel transition takes place; I mean, they'd have to do something, surely a company has large as Apple forsaw every angle in this transition, including those waiting to purchase until the Mactel machines are produced).

I think apple really needs to bring something cool and new out in order to pick up sales before they fall as they undoubtedly will due to the intel situation.

Maybe a G5 Cube now that would be nice....

As much as i ahve been lusting over a dual 2.0 PM, I am thinking a decent update to the Mac mini might be able to hold me till the Mactels....

I'd love to see new ibooks. An update is LONG overdue on them, but Apple will be hard pressed to update them without stepping on the toes of the 12" powerbook. Perhaps an update to the 12" pb also? Apple's screen size to performance ratio never made sense to me. What about professionals who need top performance and small size?? It's been beaten to death but Apple has yet to listen/care. One can always dream I suppose.

I have been thinking about the Mac mini myself. Even some nice price drops would also help with boosting sales.
