View Full Version : Your First iPod

Apr 25, 2012, 04:01 PM
When did you get your first iPod? What model was it? :)

Me? A white 2GB Nano in 2005.

Apr 25, 2012, 04:02 PM
A black 4 gig nano.

Apr 25, 2012, 04:04 PM
A silver second gen 2GB nano, about five or six years ago now I guess! I remember when it arrived.. I was ecstatic :)

Apr 25, 2012, 04:05 PM
2 gen green nano :) 2006

Apr 25, 2012, 04:31 PM
1st gen black nano in 2005, bought with my own money when I was 11. that's what started it all for me with apple

Apr 25, 2012, 04:35 PM
3rd generation with the four buttons bought in 2003. I still have it but it's been dead for a few years. It feels like an absolute brick compared to my 5th gen. nano. I've owned two classics, a mini, and a nano and that little 3rd gen. beast was by far my favorite.

Apr 25, 2012, 04:37 PM
3rd generation with buttons and red lights. Best iPod ever. Still works but the battery won't hold a charge. I use it almost every day.

Apr 25, 2012, 04:45 PM
2nd gen iPod Shuffle 2GB, got it when it came out late 2007. Such a solid little iPod. The following fall, got myself a first gen iPod Touch :)

Apr 25, 2012, 04:47 PM
all but final (can we say that yet?) release of the classic, 160gb.

now just use a shuffle.

Apr 25, 2012, 05:00 PM
a 20GB in 2004. :D

Apr 25, 2012, 05:10 PM
First gen iPod 5GB (with moving click wheel) in early 2002

Apr 25, 2012, 05:11 PM
Well I hafta admit,

I never did the iPod thing. In my mind, there were tons of competitive products with similar or more storage for a fraction of the price (and usually, more features like FM radio). So my first iPod was my iPhone 4 32GB I got in 2010!

That said, I really do like the accessory market, compatibility and integration with everything, and how much better it plays with iTunes, et al. Definitely the best mp3 player out there, but it took them adding a smartphone into it to finally sell me. That kind of a feature is hard to look past

Apr 25, 2012, 05:15 PM
A blue 8GB iPod Nano 4th Generation. It was a gift for Christmas 2008.

Apr 25, 2012, 05:48 PM
iPod Mini 2nd Gen 4GB in blue, paid 2 for it :D

:apple: iPhone 4S 32GB White, iPad 3 16GB Black, iPod Video 5.5G 30GB Black, iPod Mini 8GB CF Mod, Shure SE 425's :apple:

Apr 25, 2012, 05:51 PM
A white 5G 30gb iPod Video. Got it in January 2006.

Apr 25, 2012, 06:16 PM
2nd generation iPod touch was my first. It started my downward spiral into the Apple universe. Now almost every piece of tech I own has an Apple logo on it. :p

Apr 25, 2012, 06:28 PM
My first iPod was a 2nd gen touch. I then moved to a zune after getting mine stolen. Then a 3rd gen touch followed by and 4th gen touch then a second gen nano. Finally the iPhone 4.

nano 4 gen, in early fall '08. I bought it in the green, because I have a weakness for green in general. I was pretty happy with the color...until the next generation came out and the lineup included a gorgeous, dreamy emerald green that was *exatly* my favorite shade of green :o

It burned, but I got over it quick because I knew I had gotten mine when I honestly needed it, not just as a random whim - my ancient little creative Muvo from like '04 had finally given up the ghost :P Of course, it could be that what made the biggest difference was the brand new iphone that was in my pocket and piping music in my ears when I saw those new ipods :p

But I didn't stop using the ipod, it actually turned into he perfect setup because I began to use the ipod for hooking into my sound system at home (and in the car for road trips) so even though I got my iphone when my ipod was still fairly new, I still got tons of use out of the ipod. Still am!

Apr 25, 2012, 06:35 PM
Blue first-gen 4 gb iPod mini. :)

Apr 25, 2012, 10:14 PM
30 GB black iPod Video, purchased in December of 2005, and still in fairly regular use. The battery only lasts a few hours now, but I mainly use it docked in my speakers in my kitchen, so not too big of a deal.

Apr 25, 2012, 10:29 PM
1st Gen iPod Touch. A friend I used to play poker with had got it for Christmas and didn't want it, so I bought it on a whim.

I used the heck out of that thing. It was really my introduction to how Apple did things.

3rd generation 10GB white iPod with the clickwheel and red buttons. I love it so much still. :)

Apr 26, 2012, 07:34 AM
a 20GB in 2004. :D

Same, mine is an usable brick now but it is still in my possession. :D

Apr 26, 2012, 07:45 AM
We bought 2 iPods on the same day.

A 512MB shuffle 1st gen for me and a 6GB mini 2nd gen for my wife.

Apr 26, 2012, 08:12 AM
30gb iPod Photo I believe it was called, back in 2005. I lost it a couple of years later though.

Apr 26, 2012, 08:26 AM
A black 5G 30GB classic, bought in February 2006. It was the start of a beautiful relationship with certain Apple products......

Apr 26, 2012, 10:37 AM
First generation, 5 gig, scroll wheel. Bought the day it was released in October 2001.

Apr 26, 2012, 11:21 AM
First generation, 5 gig, scroll wheel. Bought the day it was released in October 2001.

Ditto. ;)

Apr 26, 2012, 11:53 AM
Silver 3rd Generation iPod Nano 4GB
Followed by a 2nd generation iPod touch

Apr 26, 2012, 01:36 PM
Blue iPod Mini (4GB I think) Later replaced with a silver one exactly one day after the warranty ran out.

Apr 26, 2012, 03:40 PM
My currently is my first! It's an iPod Touch 4G, 8GB. I regret not buying a model with more storage since the games get bigger and bigger.

Apr 26, 2012, 03:45 PM
4th generation, 20 gig. Was a birthday present from my family. It died a couple years later, was replaced with an 80 gig classic as another present. I haven't used it in a while as I just use my iPhone for music.

Apr 26, 2012, 04:02 PM
My first and still use it every now and then, actually lately I just leave it hooked into my car.
Only 2gb so it's just good for playlists

Apr 26, 2012, 04:35 PM
Original 5gb iPod with the moveable wheel. I think I got it a month or so after the release. I regrettably sold it before purchasing a 3rd gen 30gb monster. I believe I held off until I sold that and picked up a 60gb photo. After that its a blur, I've probably had every model they've sold at some point. I did a lot of repairs during high school and college...

Apr 26, 2012, 06:13 PM
My first was a 20GB iPod 4G. The center button no longer works but I still wake up to it every morning; it is docked in an iHome Clock Radio with a remote so center button doesn't matter. I replaced it with a 32GB iPod Touch 2G.

Apr 26, 2012, 08:05 PM
Shuffle on the first day it came out.

Apr 26, 2012, 08:10 PM
My first iPod was a 10GB iPod touch wheel (http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1353#touchwheel), which was the second gen iPod. I bought it in 2002. I couldn't go a single day without someone stopping me and asking wth it was. I still have it.:)

I remember being at a party, and someone said that the music sucked. I grabbed my iPod, connected it to the stereo, and put it on shuffle. People couldn't believe something so small could contain so much music.

Apr 26, 2012, 10:25 PM
1st gen iPod nano, white. I got it shortly after release day, and I was one of the first people in my school to get it. I used it so much that after a while, the battery life went down to only 2 hours.

Apr 27, 2012, 12:02 AM
2nd gen iPod Nano, green. 4GB. I keep it in my car and use it pretty much every day.

Apr 27, 2012, 12:15 AM
My first was a second gesn silver 6gb mini. I still have it and it still works! Battery isn't the best, but the fact that this still works its awesome. UI is still faster than my 5th gen 30gb video.

Apr 27, 2012, 01:46 AM
Surprised no one has mentioned the original brick iPod.

It was good at the time and like most electronics that get used day in and out, it died and apple sent me a 3G model. That lasted for a few more years and Apple again sent a replacement, 5G. The 5G is still going strong, but with the iPhone I am not using the iPod as I used to. Like most I carry the iPhone full of music and use that in place at work.

Apr 27, 2012, 02:09 AM
My first was a blue iPod Mini back in 2004.

Apr 27, 2012, 09:21 AM
1st Gen iPod Touch.
I used the heck out of that thing. It was really my introduction to how Apple did things.

Likewise for me.

Apr 27, 2012, 12:53 PM
If I recall correctly it was a green 4GB mini in 2004 followed by the second gen mini in 2005. Then I wouldn't buy another apple device until 2008 when I got the 1st gen iPod touch,

Apr 27, 2012, 02:07 PM
1st generation ipod shuffle 1gb, err i got it in 2005 iirc

Apr 27, 2012, 03:59 PM
1st generation black iPod Nano 2GB that i got back in April 2006.

Apr 27, 2012, 06:12 PM
A blue 8GB iPod Nano 4th Generation. It was a gift for Christmas 2008.

I did! (earlier post). It was the best iPod, it lasted for like 4 years, and then couldn't hold a charge for more than 20 minutes. The first time I brought it on a school trip everyone wanted to see it and check it out. No one had seen anything like that.

Fun story sidebar: I brought it to the Olympics in SLC in 2002, and the security guards didn't know what it was. They didn't know what an MP3 player was. I had to actually put the headphones on the guys head and play music so it wouldn't be confiscated.

Apr 27, 2012, 08:21 PM
Never owned one...

Apr 27, 2012, 09:55 PM
My 1st iPod is a silver 2nd generation nano, and it is still at good working condition. Of course, it is still my favorite.

My first and still use it every now and then, actually lately I just leave it hooked into my car.
Only 2gb so it's just good for playlists

I have one just like yours, but the wheel are tuning into yellow color. I still rarely remember I first time opened the box which my iPod laid.

Never owned one...

And you might not possible to own one, cuz all phones come with the feature with mp3 player.

But truth be told, I prefer the staff with only one function.

Apr 30, 2012, 12:19 AM
First gen 4gb white ipod nano! :]

Apr 30, 2012, 12:50 AM
First gen 1GB black iPod Nano. Such a sexy iPod :D

Apr 30, 2012, 12:12 PM
A 15GB 3rd generation iPod. The one with the 4 backlit red buttons.

Apr 30, 2012, 12:25 PM
My first was a 4GB 4th gen nano in silver.

Apr 30, 2012, 02:03 PM
1gen Black 4GB iPod Nano, I thought WOW 4GB I'll never fill this up!

That was in 2005, my cousin has it now, still works, its just a spare he takes jogging, etc.

Apr 30, 2012, 02:53 PM
Silver iPod Nano in around 2004 I think it was...

Apr 30, 2012, 03:01 PM
1st gen nano....just got the free replacement last week :)

Apr 30, 2012, 03:03 PM
The first gen 5GB with the wheel that actually moved. Quickly ended up letting my wife have that and grabbed a 10GB version that didn't have the moving wheel.

I've owned a version of every iPod since except for the classic and the current nano.

Apr 30, 2012, 03:14 PM
Exact same! :D

That's cool! We're iPod buddies! :)

Apr 30, 2012, 03:31 PM
iPod Shuffle 2g 1GB. :)

Apr 30, 2012, 03:31 PM
My first iPod, and indeed my first piece of Apple hardware, was a blue 2nd-gen nano (4 Gb). I'd still have it up and running too, had it not been stolen some time ago. Oh well, my 5th-gen nanos have filled the void nicely.

Still, the 2nd-gen was an elegant bit o' kit. My wife was envious of how well it worked with my iTunes library. Her Sansa e250 was a bit of a pain to maintain; it didn't integrate well with Windows Media Player, and its video playback function was a total joke. She eventually ditched it for a iPod touch.

May 4, 2012, 03:07 AM
mine was the 1st gen nano 2gb in black.. i loved it. i miss it, i hate the 6th gen that replaced my little beauty.

May 4, 2012, 03:10 AM
1st Gen Nano 2GB in black. worked well for years but was getting a bit hit and miss on syncs towards the end so was happy to surrender it in the recall. Sold the 6th Gen and used the proceeds to part-fund the purchase of the iPad

May 4, 2012, 03:19 AM
20GB 3rd generation.

It helped get me hooked on Apple gear but I didn't keep it too long because of the useless battery life. :(

May 4, 2012, 06:29 AM
30 gb classic 1st gen
good 1 with the bose sounddock

May 4, 2012, 09:15 AM
1st generation original 5gb ipod. Still works when I charge it up.

I purchased it from eBay on February 1st, 2002 for $375 bucks!

They were priced at $399 back then...

May 4, 2012, 10:47 AM
Silver iPod Nano in around 2004 I think it was...

Image (http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2006/09/dsc_1046.jpg)
The 1st gen. Nano came out in Sep. 2005. (I remember because I got the 4gb white one.) So you must have acquired yours after that date. (The picture looks like a 2nd gen, which came out in Sep. 2006.)

The 1st gen. Nano wasn't my 1st iPod, however. My first was the 1st gen. iPod Mini (4gb), which I bought in the summer of 2004(?).

May 4, 2012, 01:01 PM
1st gen nano...just sent to apple for the new nano! Got the new nano in the mail last week :)

May 4, 2012, 11:17 PM
Went into the Source in 2006 to get a new Shuffle (2G) and because they were still transitioning from the first generation I walked out with a new 2nd gen Nano.
Got the Shuffle (silver) later, and still use it sometimes. Broke the 2G Nano's screen years ago and am currently using a 4G Nano.

May 4, 2012, 11:43 PM
My first was a second generation iPod (classic, white). It was the first one to have a touch-sensitive scroll wheel (the one before that was mechanical). I think it's still lying around here somewhere. That was back in the days when getting a higher gigabyte iPod meant getting a thicker one. I think mine was the 10 GB model, but somehow I ended up with two (a 20 GB as well). I honestly can't remember how that came to pass, but I gave one of them to my sister I think.

May 7, 2012, 12:44 AM
My first iPod touch was blue 8GB Nano 4th Generation. It is very much user Friendly.

May 7, 2012, 03:19 AM
1st Generation with Scroll Wheel 5GB. Still going strong and looking good. 4 hours of battery! :D

May 7, 2012, 06:59 AM
I bought my first iPod after i broke 6 other mp3-players, let's just say i was a little harsh with them when i was 13, haha.
I chose the iPod Nano 2g silver 2GB model, and it is still working:)
One of the best buys i ever made!

May 7, 2012, 11:25 AM
Got my first iPod as a birthday present at the end of November 2001, 1st generation with Scroll Wheel 5GB. I loved it so much I bought my wife one for Christmas that year, we still have both of them and they're working just fine today - mine gets 7 hours of battery life, the wife's gets 9 but had it's battery replaced in 2003.

Much like a few other posts here I remember people stopping me on the street, bus, train, etc. asking me what it was and being astounded at how much music it could hold.

May 7, 2012, 11:27 AM
10 Gb Classic second Generation. Bought Oct 2002 while on a trip to NYC.

May 7, 2012, 12:59 PM
8gb Black Gen2 Nano. It was awesome!!!! It was rugged as h311 with an Agent18 case on it. It went to the DR once, Cancun twice, Paris once and Budapest once. If it came as a 32gb, I'd still be using it!!!! One of my best investments ever.....

May 7, 2012, 01:20 PM
Bought a 20 GB 4th Generation in November 2004, my first Apple product ever. Sold it to my buddy in December 2005 when I won a 5th Generation. He used it all the way until 2010 when, unfortunately, it was stolen out of his car.. I still wonder how long it would have lasted for...

May 11, 2012, 06:02 AM
iPod Classic (80GB) (2008), I decided I missed it so bought a 160GB Classic recently.

Dr McKay
May 11, 2012, 09:42 AM
Can't remember the year, but it was this one.

May 11, 2012, 12:50 PM
Mine was a 4G 20 GB iPod in 2004 as a Christmas gift. I loved that thing to death, but my careless 12 year old self pretty much killed it within three months, what with leaving it on the wall charger for three days straight, dropping it on concrete/asphalt countless times... I miss it. Wish I'd had the sense to take better care of it, hindsight sucks. ;)

May 11, 2012, 01:18 PM
Mine was an iPod 4th gen white 20gb I bought in 2004. Loved it! :D The following year I got a 2gb black nano, which was recently swapped by Apple for an 8gb 6G nano. I think I paid $399 for that 20gb! I sold it to a friend after a couple of years and he used it for quite a long time. Those things were tanks!

May 15, 2012, 01:53 PM
2001: iPod 1st gen, 5GB
2004: iPod mini 1st gen, 4GB
2005: iPod nano 1st gen, 4GB
2006: iPod 5th gen, 80GB
2007: iPod touch 1st gen, 8GB

And from then on it's iPhones!
(Apart from 2010: iPod shuffle 4th gen, 2GB)

May 15, 2012, 03:02 PM
A first generation 2GB white nano around mid 2006, my first ever apple product and loved it. Bought it after going through several cheap mp3 players, the ones that ran off AAA batteries.
iPod lasted about 3 months, lent it to my girlfriend who forget to take it out of her pocket before putting her jeans in the washing machine.

May 15, 2012, 04:03 PM
My very first iPod I had ever owned was a 2nd Generation iPod nano.

May 15, 2012, 06:25 PM
My first own iPod was the 5G iPod in Black, 30GB. Often referred to as the iPod Video.

I must say that in my opinion, this is the best-looking iPod ever produced.

However, the chrome rear and piano-black front was honestly impossible to keep nice, even though I'm extremely careful with my stuff. I still have it, as well as the original packaging. I had imagined I would be using it for my car which I will be buying this summer, leaving it placed in the glove compartment, connected to the stereo. However, I wonder if I am not going to use Spotify on my iPhone instead. Truth be told, I have not used iTunes for music since two, three years ago, sort of why the old iPods are unfortunately quite... dead to me.

After purchasing the iPod 5G 30GB, I also acquired the following:

- 2G iPod 15GB (I believe)
- 2G iPod Nano (Silver)
- 1G iPod Mini
- 1G iPod Touch 16GB - Sold it in 2009 for my iPhone 3GS.

However, the iPhone together with Spotify revolutionized how I listen to music. Having access to almost all music in the world, available in the cloud is quite amazing. iTunes syncing was no longer needed. All of which has made me wonder whether I will actually ever use my iPods again. :/

May 15, 2012, 07:43 PM
4th Generation iPod Nano, for a few months then a iPod Touch 2!

Now, I have an iPad, ( 3 soon ), MacBook Pro, iMac, ATV, etc

May 15, 2012, 11:01 PM
30GB iPod 5G (iPod Video), black.

iPod touch 2g 8gb i bought it in january 2010

Then i bought an iPod touch 4g 32gb in september 2010. Kinda crazy i bought 2 iPods in the same year but hey i had no choice especially since the iPod touch 2g had limited features in iOS 4. you couldn't multitask and you couldn't change your wallpaper.

There is this thing called 'Jailbreaking' my friend. Marvelous stuff ;)

My first ever (after an MP4 thing from China) was an 8GB iPod Nano 4g. I bought it in 2009 I believe, for $200 or so.

It still works today (most of the time), except it no longer holds my music library in full xD

I now use an iPod To:Duch 4G (bought in 2010, month after release. hehe). THAT thing is friggin awesome. Especially after I jailbreak it a month or so ago :D

i jail broke my iPod and enabled the features and it slowed down to a crawl.

HP iPod 20GB (4th Gen)

Boy, I had good times with that thing. I miss the click wheel. Too bad Apple got rid of it.

i jail broke my iPod and enabled the features and it slowed down to a crawl.

That's rather strange, maybe something went wrong. Mine is hacked out and still runs fine :)

Green iPod mini. Still works too.

Green iPod mini. Still works too.

Silve iPod mini was my first iPod and mine still works as well. However, the screen is cracked on mine.

May 17, 2012, 10:00 AM
1st Gen 512mb shuffle, such a cool device (with lanyard and everything!)

then 20gb 4th Gen colour

then many, many more (am at about 22 iPods now)

May 17, 2012, 10:01 AM
Silver 80 gb iPod classic in 07 was my first.

May 17, 2012, 10:03 AM
iPod mini. had a sweet speaker dock (Altec Lansing?) for it too

May 17, 2012, 02:03 PM
3rd Gen 10GB white iPod with the clickwheel and red buttons.

May 17, 2012, 05:28 PM
Got a 15gb with the scroll wheel and buttons in 2003. It was such an awesome feeling to walk to classes with it instead of carrying around the old cd player. Still works, though the battery life isn't stellar. My best overall would be a silver 4gb nano from 06. It gives me a good 12-15 hours of playtime despite heavy use.

May 17, 2012, 07:08 PM
First generation iPod nano for signing up with TD Bank!

May 17, 2012, 07:58 PM
Ditto. ;)

May 17, 2012, 08:40 PM
Mine was an 'iPod Video' in 2005. Still use it to this day(plugged in most of the time since the battery doesn't last long).

May 17, 2012, 08:48 PM
November 2001. 5GB Classic. Mechanical scroll wheel. Served me well!

May 17, 2012, 09:10 PM
first Gen iPod shuffle,
the usb stick looking one

i brought it with my first pay as a teen:apple:

May 22, 2012, 03:46 AM
My first was the 1st gen Nano, 1GB model I believe. I bought it literally 2 weeks before the 2nd gen was released. As soon as that happened, I gave the 1st gen to my sister and ordered a (RED) 2nd gen...

May 22, 2012, 02:20 PM
My parents got me a green second generation nano for Christmas in 2006... I was twelve then. Time flies!

I won a gray iPod shuffle on a christmas party. But then I got mugged like 5 months later. I liked the thing.

The first iPod I bought myself was the latest white iPod Touch (4G).

I love that thing.

May 23, 2012, 11:11 AM
Got a 1st gen ipod in 2002, a few years later handed it down to my kids after the minis came out, and they ask why it was so big:)

May 23, 2012, 11:31 AM
1st Gen iPod shuffle. Still use it today for gym... perfect for the beach too. :apple:

May 23, 2012, 01:39 PM
I've owned every iPod since they first launched.

May 23, 2012, 05:54 PM
My first iPod was a blue iPod Shuffle 2G, purchased in early 2008 right after the price drop. After that, was an iPod touch 2G purchases in Oct. 2008.

May 23, 2012, 06:00 PM
Mine was when I got my iPhone 3G on launch day.

My first iPod was a blue mini.

May 24, 2012, 10:17 AM
Excellent thread!

2003 When the 3rd Generation iPod was released, I purchased it. Knowing I was getting one, for 3 weeks I converted all of my CD's into iTunes. I remember at night while watching TV, I would put 2 CD's in at a time and over and over burn, burn, burn. It was very tedious, but in the end I had something that carried every song I owned in the size of 1 cassette.

Since then, being the good geek I am, I had purchased every iPod upgrade released, selling the previous versions to fund them. I am completely impressed with how far we have come.

May 24, 2012, 06:24 PM
iPod touch.
Sadly, it was stolen. Good thing it had a passcode. Karma's a beach.

May 24, 2012, 07:28 PM
2nd gen touch wheel. 20GB. Fall 2002. Loved it! But I love my 3rd gen iPod touch more!

May 24, 2012, 08:07 PM
1st Generation iPod Shuffle...it was a promotional item for taking a credit card.

May 27, 2012, 10:09 PM
2nd gen iPod touch in January 2009.

I knew then I was hooked on Apple.

May 28, 2012, 12:14 AM
30GB white iPod Photo bought in 2005. Still works 100% and holds a charge. I use it in my car because it works and charges with my Pioneer car stereo. I sold my two Classics back in January so it is my only iPod now. This was back when iPods came with the little black pads to cover the ear plugs.

I used it for a few days after purchase and put it away, losing interest. I didn't actually start using it until probably 2007 or so.

I use one of my two iPhones in my other car, my daily driver and bought a Pioneer deck that works with both last month

May 28, 2012, 12:25 AM
i purchased first ipod in jan 2012 and brand is panasonic?
can anyone suggest me another best ipod brand?

Well, then it's not an iPod. iPods are made ONLY by Apple.

May 29, 2012, 04:06 AM
A first gen iPod shuffle. As a gift for my birthday in 2005. It ended up breaking after a week (the blinking light error). I got an replacement awhile later, which I still own to this day.

Blue Fox
May 29, 2012, 10:57 PM
First one was 40GB iPod Photo.

Then I got the 80GB iPod Video the day it came out.

Then I got an iPod Touch the day it came out.

Then I got a 120GB iPod Classic in black the day they came out, and still have it to this day. Makes the best music/video server for the in-dash Sat-Nav.

May 30, 2012, 04:47 AM
3rd gen with 4 buttons, then a 4th gen, 4th gen photo, 5g video + 1st gen nano, 80gb classic, then moved away from iPod to iPhone, 3g, 4, now 4s

May 30, 2012, 09:57 PM
1st gen Nano White 4gb.

Sat on it in my back pocket, screen half broken.
Dropped it second time, DEAD

Got my 1st gen Touch a year later

May 31, 2012, 12:22 AM
2nd Generation scroll wheel 10GB Model A1019

still on my desk. even if it hasn't been used in a while.

May 31, 2012, 02:09 AM
refurbished iPod photo 20bGB Christmas 2006, didn't know I wanted or needed it. Unfortunately I have a large music library so I converted the songs to a very low bit rate. Wasn't really a big deal as I was mostly using cheap head phones. When I found it a year or 2 later when I had a car I realized that quality of the songs was god awful

Eventually got the the ipod Classic 120, sold it a year later, and bought the 160 not for any other reason than my warranty was expiring and I realized if I sold it Could buy a new one for not much more than what it would cost to extend the warranty

Girlfriend gave me her 2nd Gen touch, sold it for a 4th gen which I got for really cheap.

sold the classic 160 needed money

bought used ipod video 60 when a few bones got tossed my way. and miss the ui of the classic not to mention the sleekness. Still happy to have my music all on my device though :)

May 31, 2012, 09:56 AM
My parents got me a 1st gen 4GB nano for my 14th birthday back in 2006. I was absolutely ecstatic about it! Used it right until I got an iphone 4 back in 2010, not sure where it is right now...

Jun 2, 2012, 05:26 AM
First gen shuffle whenever that came out

Jun 3, 2012, 09:42 AM
It was a black 5th gen iPod w/video. Looking back calling the thing a video player is funny, but at the time i thought it was the dogs bollocks.

Jun 3, 2012, 09:45 AM
40 GB 4th gen (clickwheel), then a 4 GB 3rd Gen nano, then an 80 GB 5.5th gen (video), then for a while an 8 GB nano 5th gen (the one with the video camera).

Jul 16, 2012, 01:50 AM
4th generation iPod 20GB, which at the time my parents weren't aware of the iPod video so I turned around and exchanged it for a lovely 60GB Video.

Funny thing is I thought digital music players were lame for several years, but once I got my iPod I instantly became addicted. I've now had:
a second 60GB Video, 80GB Video (stolen), 80GB Video swapped with a 320GB hard drive (functions as a video output device to my TV), 80GB Video with 120GB swap, 120GB Classic (currently in use), 160GB Classic (plan on switching to this as my music player once my 120GB battery gets poor), 1st gen nano (sold), 2x 2nd gen nanos (red/black, both sold), 2x 2nd generation shuffles orange/red (still have), 2x 3rd generation shuffles black/silver (still have somewhere), 4th gen shuffle (gold, currently in use), 6th generation graphite nano (screen cracked, red one on the way) and a 4th generation iPod Touch (currently used, for apps)

Jul 16, 2012, 10:17 AM
4th generation 30gb iPod with Color Display, bought in 2005, and it still works even on battery, though between iPhones and iPads, it doesn't get used much anymore.

Jul 16, 2012, 03:36 PM
3rd gen. I still think it was the best design, no moving parts on the contoll to ware out.

Jul 17, 2012, 11:55 PM
Silver iPod mini...back in I think 2004. I don't remember what generation it is though :/

Jul 20, 2012, 12:46 AM
My first iPod was an iPod Touch 2G 8gb purchased in March of 2009. Its definitely seen better days. The volume down button doesn't work, the screen has been replaced once, and the ribbon cable connecting the touch screen is loose or something, so the only way I can use the iPod is with one of those big butterfly paper clips attatched to the top of the screen. Oh and the audio jack doesn't work so I can only listen to music when it's docked or through the built in speaker. I have used this iPod almost every day since I got it. And it's definitely seen some heavy use. I primarily use it for YouTube, texting when I'm on wifi, calendar, contacts, the occasional quick google search etc. Basically as a PDA when I'm away from my desktop or laptops. I'm limping along until the next revision. Hopefully it survives. I have other iPods, but I really enjoy everything the touch offers.

Jul 20, 2012, 03:23 AM
I was sort of late to the game; 2007 Ipod Classic 80 gb. Pretty cool thing though:) I still use it from time to time, but my iphone is slowly taking over :p

Original 5GB iPod in 2001

Jul 21, 2012, 01:31 PM
What's an iPod? :D

JK first gen iPod Nano :apple:

Jul 21, 2012, 11:11 PM
iPod Classic 80GB.

Jul 22, 2012, 12:34 AM
My first one was a blue 5th gen Nano. I used to listen to music from a CD player, but I decided to upgrade because it was interesting, and not just a music player. I found out that I did just need a music player, (I also needed more space) so I purchased a third-gen iPod and later fixed up an original iPod and upgraded it to 15 GB, which is now my main one.

Jul 22, 2012, 01:23 AM
My first was a black nano 4th gen in 2008. I absolutely fell in love with the thing, and started a lifelong relationship (i presume ;) ). Today I have a few more, lets say 50+ :D

Aug 7, 2012, 10:19 PM
I had an original from when they first came out. Wished that I never got rid of it. The wheel mechanically turned. It was one heavy iPod. Pretty thick.

Aug 8, 2012, 08:29 AM
5gb 2nd generation in 2002. It seemed so svelte back then...

Aug 8, 2012, 10:11 AM
20GB iPod photo.

Aug 11, 2012, 03:00 PM
Really late to the party here, 4th gen iPod touch. I refused to buy until apple put a camera in the touch.

Aug 14, 2012, 12:11 AM
2nd gen iPod shuffle.

I still use it when I go running or do weight training...it gets used 6/7 days of the week! It's been washed twice, and it still works just great. However, the battery is getting old and I'm thinking about buying a new one to solder on. Part of me is just leaning toward buying an entirely new iPod shuffle, considering how cheap they are.

Aug 14, 2012, 12:17 AM
My first iPod was was a 3rd Gen Nano

Aug 14, 2012, 05:20 PM

3rd Gen nano silver 4GB. That was later replaced by a 32GB iPod Touch 3rd Gen

Aug 17, 2012, 01:14 PM
My first and only ipod (still use it everyday) 4gb lime green Ipod mini. It only holds a small amount of songs but I find that a good thing because that means I only have songs on there I actually listen to hehe.

Aug 17, 2012, 11:35 PM
16 gb iPod nano 5g. The good one before they made it a touch screen.
End up selling it for a iPod touch which I'm still using.

Aug 18, 2012, 01:01 PM
A second gen green 4GB nano that my parents got me for christmas in 2006. I had a walkman prior to that, so it was much more convenient once I figured out how it worked. I found iTunes confusing back then, but I can't tell if it actually was or I was just young (I was 12). I still use it as my gym ipod.

Aug 18, 2012, 11:47 PM
First gen iPod 5GBFirst gen iPod 5GB;)

Aug 20, 2012, 05:29 AM
mine was the one with the buttons (illuminated red behind) bought it late 2003.
Loved it so much I wondered how cool Apple computers would be and flew to NY from LON and bought my first Powerbook 15" in SoHo in april 2004 just wanted to try garageband iLife 04, amazing time! the iPod introduced me to Apple.
oH yeah back then the US Dollar was really weak and I saved around a grand buying it from the states instead of the UK, got a holiday out of it too and my first chance to see an Apple Retail Store, good times.

Aug 20, 2012, 11:16 AM
Here is my first generation 5 gig firewire powered iPod:

It was later replaced with my 4th generation 20 gig iPod.

And that was replaced with my 16gig iPhone 3g.
And that was replaced with my 32gig iPhone 4.

Interestingly, I found my 20 gig iPod and might try to get it going again - it's in good condition and runs so long as power is connected to it. I could replace the battery and have it running again in no time.

Oct 7, 2012, 01:48 PM
1St Generation iPod touch which I sold a few months ago.

Oct 7, 2012, 02:20 PM

iPod Nano 2 Gen - 2 GB - Silver

Oct 7, 2012, 02:57 PM
Mine was a silver 3rd generation iPod nano. 4GB. Got it as a Christmas gift years ago. I don't know how I ever thought 4 gigs was enough space! Then again, in 6th or 7th grade I wasn't really a big music listener and there were no apps to take up tons of storage space (other than those silly click wheel games. I think I bought a couple of those!) Ahh, good times :)

Oct 9, 2012, 10:57 AM
my first was a 20GB 3rd gen iPod (four buttons above the scroll wheel) in early 2004. that lasted for a long time (had HDD replaced once under warranty) until it finally died (HDD again) and i upgraded to a 32GB 2nd gen iPod touch in late 2008.
i moved to iPhone land with the release of the 4, and now i have a 64GB iPhone 5.

Oct 9, 2012, 11:45 AM
As yet I have never owned an ipod - still mainly using CDs at home.
However I have got to listening to the music on my ipad so am considering getting either the new touch or nano to use when I don't want to take my ipad with me.

Up until that point I swore I would never buy Apple products. Then I saw the 2nd gen shuffle and it's potential for use at the gym and the rest is history. Since then I've bought iPod Touch 3rd gen and iPod Nano 6th gen.

My first iPod was the first iPod. It was $400. It had a 5GB hard drive. And it blew people's minds when they saw it. I've still got it and it still works; though the battery won't hold a charge so it only works when plugged in.

Oct 18, 2012, 02:20 PM

I just got my first iPod :) it's a 4gen 32GB and I'm liking it :D

Nov 13, 2012, 11:35 AM
My first iPod was a third generation (full size, with the 4 buttons and red/orange lights) that I got in around 2003. Had to have a third party software to load songs because you couldn't load iTunes on windows at the time.

Then I got a 5th generation in because it had a bigger capacity (60 GB I believe) and gapless playback.

Then I got a 3rd generation nano for portability.

Now I have the 5th generation touch.

Nov 13, 2012, 12:25 PM
First iPod (first Apple product)...5th Gen 30GB iPod Video...
Then it went from there to my whole family getting iPod Nanos, another iPod Video, iPod Shuffle for snowboarding... then now iPhones and iPads.

Nov 13, 2012, 11:50 PM
1st generation iPod Touch. I bought it during Christmas 2009 for myself. This was my first Apple product too. :apple:

Nov 23, 2012, 05:13 PM
Mine was/is a 3rd gen iPod in silver. It was my first Apple product. I remember being disappointed that Apple no longer had a white one so I bought a white case for it. It still works and I use it for my car now. However, my music collection has grown to where it can't hold everything anymore. I'll probably replace it with a 7th gen iPod in Blue.

Nov 23, 2012, 05:33 PM
3rd gen :)

Nov 23, 2012, 08:37 PM
2nd Gen iPod Nano in 2006.

Before that I used a Discman, LOL.

Nov 24, 2012, 04:06 AM
40 GB iPod Clickwheel.

Nov 24, 2012, 04:19 AM
I'm pretty sure I had a 4GB 2nd Gen iPod Mini. I don't remember. If that wasn't my first one, then the iPod Nano 4th Gen was my first one which I got while I was in Iraq.

Nov 24, 2012, 06:41 AM
My first iPod was (and still is!) my beloved precious... the "Fatty" (iPod Nano 3G, I believe it was 2007 release).

Yeah it's fat. Yeah it's thick. Yeah it looks like Cartman. So what!? It was sturdy and well-built, not flimsy and anorexic like later models. It was the first nano that played videos as well as games. In 5 years, it never broke, it never showed any defects. Not once did I have to get it repaired for anything.

I still have it, but it is just now being replaced by my newly-arrived iPod Touch 5G. I'm not sure what to do as far as retiring the Fatty. Just keep it for sentimental reasons? Or possibly give it to my dad (semi-retired low-tech dude who will dig the click-wheel rather than the touch-screen devices).

Oh fatty, I will miss ya.... :(

Nov 24, 2012, 07:50 AM
Green iPod mini (2004). Got it free with a new PowerBook. Still have it, it still works, still has the playlists from the last time I synced it in 2005.

Nov 24, 2012, 08:35 AM
First iPod? 2nd Generation iPod touch.
Earliest iPod? 4th Generation iPod nano.

Nov 25, 2012, 07:06 AM

Nov 25, 2012, 08:35 AM
The 1. generation iPod touch from 2008. This iPod which I still use till today started me on Apple. It's somehow my favourite product so far, that accompanied me through some very interesting, but tough times in live. It is the best MP3 player by far.

Nov 25, 2012, 11:03 AM
Hello everybody,

This is my first post. Please bear with me as I try to navigate this forum.

I purchased an iPod Classic earlier this year

The literature claims this model has a 30,000 song limit

If the average song is four minutes long, my iPod classic should hold up to 120,000 minutes (30K songs times 4 minutes per song equals 120k minutes).

I understand file sizes differ by type (i.e. wav, AAC, etc.) but I want to keep this as simple as possible for discussion.

My library currently has 88,000 minutes worth of audio files of which there are maybe four different file types.

Unfortunately, my iPod can not handle this many minutes.

In iTunes, I unselected 22,000 minutes worth of songs leaving me 66,000 minutes ready to load on my iPod Classic

So here is my question:

Does anyone know how many minutes on average the iPod Classic can hold?

Nov 25, 2012, 11:06 AM
mine was a 30gb iPod Video

Nov 27, 2012, 08:54 AM
6th Gen 16gb Nano for me.

I was never massively into digital music, still buy CDs as it is now and rip them. Only got into MP3s when I bought a CD player in the car that was MP3 capable and that was in 2004.

Eventually started commuting by train in 2005 and opted for a Sony 1gb MP3 player. Was great with 50 hour battery life but eventually the Nano 6 caught my eye as small, slick and great quality.

I wouldn't look back now though and will be going for a 7th Gen Nano for Christmas this year. :)

Nov 27, 2012, 02:57 PM
a green 4gb mini... loved that thing

then a 30gb video. now sporting a 160gb classic.

Nov 29, 2012, 08:42 AM
Ipod Touch 5g

Nov 29, 2012, 01:19 PM
My first iPod was an iPod touch second gen...also my first apple product. Bought it in 2008! On black friday, in a Costco...memories ;). I still have it, although the back feels like anodized aluminum now from the scratches (was chrome glossy), the battery barely holds a charge for longer than 30 minutes and there's a couple dead pixels I got while trying to open it...Also the volume and power buttons don't work anymore.

Nov 30, 2012, 02:16 PM
4th gen (click wheel)

Nov 30, 2012, 05:11 PM
Mine was also a 30gb 5.5gen video.

The hard drive died after a couple years (probably as a result of me going running with it) and it sat on my shelf until last year. I bought the replacement drive last year and repaired it. Soon after it died I had the 4th gen Nano in silver, and sold that after I got my iPhone 2g.

Just as a side note, can you fit a bigger sized hard-drive into a 30GB 5.5 video body?

Mine too. Got it back in '06 right before I went to Iraq.

Black iPod video in '05.

Still works the same as the day I bought it though now it only gets used when we go river tubing. In a water-proof case and a floating ice chest stereo:D

Ha, and like others I got it before one of my last trips over to the sandbox.

Me - 2005 iPod Shuffle 1G ("stick of gum" design). 1G memory. Came with a lanyard so you could wear it around neck. Proudly wore it at work and people would ask "could I have some gum"? Also was the forcing factor for me to replace my Mac 6500 (1997 OS 9) with a new Mac Mini (2005 OS 10.3). iTunes was the carrot that made me finally jump to an OS X computer. And finally, over a period of many months I ripped my whole CD collection (400) and carted them all off to 1/2 Price Books. Also digitized a bunch of old cassettes of my band and that sort of thing.

Wife - 2006 iPod Nano 2G ("tall and skinny" design). 8G memory.

Last - 2007 iPod Nano 3G ("fattie" design). 8G memory.

I don't use the shuffle anymore, just the "fattie". Wife still uses her Nano 2G.

Neither of us would ever buy a new iPod that didn't have a "clickwheel". We have been to the Apple store and played with the new touch screen models. No thanx. Clickwheel models provide "eye free" operation at night or in a pocket that the touchscreen, does not. And we both have iPhones so we know what the touchscreen IS good for. We like dedicated music players that are NOT wifi or cellular because we don't like any sources of EM close to us while we are sleeping.

it's the fat 3rd gen Nano.

Over four years later and it is still used daily (mostly by my mom, who didn't have an iPod so I let her put her songs on this one). I don't plan on ever upgrading it, unless Apple ever brings the clickwheel back to the Nanos.

Guh, my iPod Nano 3rd gen just died last week. Went strong for about 5 years but it started to have trouble waking up and now the click wheel doesn't work.

I'm wary of buying another used one off eBay only to have it die again. Overall my favorite iPod ever made though. I'm keeping the dead one for a while.

I'm just going to copy this post, because it's my answer too. Such a great little iPod. I used it for snowboarding all the time.

2nd gen 4gb Mini that I initially bought for my daughter, then stole it from her after she hardly used it. I just replaced the battery the other day, and am going to upgrade the hd with a 32gb CF. My brother gave me a 5th gen 60gb Video that the hd occasionally acts up on. I'm going to upgrade the hd to 120gb or 240gb.

iPhone 4!

Yeah I was a little late to the game. There were a lot of cool advantages to the iPod, especially the original ones with FireWire so you didn't spend all day transferring songs, but I always ended up going with the cheaper mp3 players. Looking back though, they all broke prematurely and a better solution would have likely been an iPod... plus I quickly ran out of storage and was upgrading, whilst the iPod was pretty huge to begin with... alas...

When I finally made the switch to the iPhone 4, that was my first iPod. Ironically, it nows serves primarily as a 32GB iPod! My iPhone 5 is now my iPhone, and the old 4 is now a fat iPod touch.

My first iPod was the iPod Nano 2G.

I had a 20 gig 4th gen that I bought at Circuit City but returned because it apparently had already been sold because when I went to register it it said it had about 4 months of warranty left on the Apple site. Returned that and bought a refurbished 20 gig Color 4g. So technically I guess the color 4G was my first.

My first iPod was the 3rd gen nano. Silver, the only colour you could get in 4GB.

The ipod mini or nano 2gen was my first and upgraded to the next nano yearly ever since. Have tried them all and am now on the 7th gen.. Can't really say which is my favorite, every one has its personality and picadellos.. am already curious for the next one .. haha..

My first iPod was a 4th generation 20GB U2 one. Regret selling it, so just managed to snag another in really nice condition on eBay.

Mine was a 60 gig iPod photo. Pretty expensive new. It broke so I threw it in a drawer and bought a new one. About a year ago I opened it up and repaired it (it needed the dock connector to be resoldered to the PCB). Sold it on eBay for a pretty penny.

I was very surprised when my Mum managed to get me the very first gen 5Gb iPod at Christmas 2001 - I had suggested it as something that I wanted, but she isn't the sort of person who knows how to track down tech stuff, especially when it's in short supply. I used it for years before replacing it with a 60Gb iPod photo. I also have a first gen 512Mb shuffle, which proved really handy when cycling around London. Apart from a brief flirtation with a first gen iPod touch, I've been all iPhone since the 3GS.

I just got my first iPod ever, an 8GB iPod nano V4. A pretty little machine, I've secretly always wanted one :)
